Lurker with a question.... Wii or psp?

I want to get my SO either a Wii or a psp for christmas but i am stumped on which one. He already has a ps3 from last christmas, and i am going to get him the ps3 motion this year to go with it.. which makes me think there isnt a point in getting a Wii, but there are different and more Wii games then ps3 motion. Any input is appreciated. TIA

Re: Lurker with a question.... Wii or psp?

  • We have had a PS3 for a while and got the Wii at the beginning of this year. But now that I've seen the PS3 motion I wonder whether we'll need the Wii anymore. It still has more games with it right now but I think the PS3 will have plenty of games for it soon enough. So I'd go with the PSP so he can play games on the road.
  • This is a tough call all around. The PS3 actually does have more accurate sensor detection than the Wii. So unless you and your hubby love Mario games I would skip getting a Wii. I know ours gets used few and far between.

Also, wait until near Thanksgiving to buy anything because prices tend to drop for the holidays then. If you buy a PSP now, it could be more than in just a month.

The PS3 motion is great to pick up and there are a bunch of games for it. I would hesitate on the PSP because support for the PSP has waned and there is talk about a new PSP being announced next year.

For handheld gaming you are going to really want the 3DS which will be available next year. The 3DS is amazing (handheld gaming from Nintendo). I've played with it at E3 and was amazed at how much 3D can add to gaming when you don't have to wear those glasses.

If you must get handheld gaming now, don't discount the iPad. Not only can it do business like emails and various other apps, but it is a gaming machine. And the target of many game companies that are racing to put out more games on the iPad.

I run a gaming site for women, so please let me know if you have any questions at all.

I say go with the PSP. We have the "Big 3" (Wii, PS3 and 360), and my husband has a PSP. It does way more than just games, it stores music and has web capabilties, too. I would agree, with the PS Motion being released, and the XBox Kinect, I think the Wii may be fading out.

Trina - Can I get a link to your site? :)
