Travelling to Portland - need suggestions!

Hi girls,

DH and I are taking an Anniversary Weekend Getaway in Portland next weekend. We've got our room reserved at Kennedy School, and are way excited about that. We've been to Portland before, but only for brief occasions, not an extended stay. We love to eat out at interesting restaurants (we like cool, fun atmosphere, and enjoy American, French, Italian, Mexican, and Asian food), like to shop at fun, quirky local stores, and just want to relax and have fun.

Here's where we're planning to go so far:

SauceBox

Bipartisan Caf? (DH loves pie)

Doug Fir Lodge

Voodoo Donuts (doesn't everyone go there? :))

Powells Bookstore

We also want to hit the Pearl District, Pioneer Place (we like to go to the Seattle version - Pacific Place), and of course Costco for sales-tax free shopping.

Also, we're driving, but want to use public transportation, because we know how awesome your bus system is. :)

Any suggestions or places we're missing out on? Thanks in advance! :)

Re: Travelling to Portland - need suggestions!

  • Saturday Market down on the waterfront under Burnside Bridge for crafty stuff and people watching. (Sat and Sun until 4 I think)

Farmers Market on Portland State Campus on Saturday (until 2) for fruit, veggies, flowers.

PeemKaew in the Pearl for Thai food.

Bridgeport, Widmere and Mcmennamins (Kennedy school is one of them) for  good Oregon Beers.

Cha Taqueria on NW 21st or 22nd for Mexican

  • I would suggest walking up and down Hawthorne between about 32nd - 39th.  Really fun shopping.

If you like dessert, I HIGHLY recommend going to Rimsky-Korsakoffee Haus on SE 12th and Morrison.  (It's the big red house next door to the Plaid Pantry).  They open at about 7pm and close at midnight (1am on the weekends). Note: they dont accept credit cards.. they only take cash.  Also... use the restroom if you go.
