West Lebanon area?? Or surrounding? Help please!

Hi everyone!

My DH is likely transferring to West Lebanon, NH for work...we are definitely NOT from around there, so we know nothing of the area. We have a 3yo girl and are probably going to try for a 2nd child sometime in 2011.

Looking for an area that's good to raise children, has a good school/education system in place, and preferably not astronomically expensive (as we've heard W. Leb is because of its' proximity to Dartmouth). Any suggestions on places to check out?

 TIA!

Re: West Lebanon area?? Or surrounding? Help please!

  • I'm not familiar with the area really, but a site to check for houses and get a feel for the expense of the area is www.nneren.com

    Good luck in the move

  • I'm not familiar with that area either, other than my annual pilgrimage to the King Arthur factory store in Norwich Vt.  We spend most of the day shopping and eating in Lebanon.

Lebanon is on the NH/VT border, so you might consider some VT towns as well. Just keep in mind VT and NH have different tax structures ( no state income tax in NH!).

I would recommend renting for a while until you are more familiar with the area. Good luck!

  • hi!  i live over near west leb and work in lebanon. i grew up here.  it is kinda pricy over here but there are some good towns to look at for living in--lebanon itself is pretty affordable.  way more so than a lot of the surrounding towns. south of west leb is plainfield.  very small but a nice community and only about 5 minutes down the road from west leb.  probably more expensive.  20 minutes down the road from leb is cornish (where i grew up).  very pretty town, but nothing there.  there is enfield which is right on mascoma lake, as well as etna and hanover.  the last two towns are a littler pricier.

i live right over the river in quechee vt.  it is pretty wealthy (unlike me) but has some great schools for your kids.  wilder is right here too, more affordable, as is white river junction.  all three of these towns (wilder is where i went to HS) are much more affordable than quechee, and are only five minutes from downtown west leb.

if you would like any additional information (local newspaper, real estate companies, anything!) please feel free to email me: spinksonburke@yahoo.com

    good luck!

  • Hey how did things work out? I am new to the nest but also from the Leb area.
