Coffee pot cleaning?

How do I clean my coffee pot out after several uses, like internally? I heard running it with vinegar is a good way to get it clean but it wasn't explained to me. Do I run it with water or plain? Any other ways to clean it?

My mom runs one or two cups of white vinegar through her coffee maker (depending on how much she has on hand) and then she runs full pot of just water to rinse out any lingering vinegar.

This. When I first moved out on my own my mom gave me their old coffee pot - unfortunately there was an old filter that had been in there for probably a year or so. Imagine that nasty old coffee smell! I filled the water compartment with vinegar and ran it through then ran hot water through a few times. It was as good as new

Ditto.  I think I did 1 c vinegar + 1 c water, then followed that with a plain water cycle.

There's no real "standard" to what ratio water::vinegar you should use. Some like full-strength for a full pot's worth; others like less.

We usually do a full pot of a 50/50 mix, then two full pots of plain water afterward to flush it out.

Yep, I do a couple cups of vinegar, too, followed by a few runs of plain water to flush it all out.

Then I use the hot vinegar to clean out drains (put baking soda in the drain first, then pour in the vinegar).

I use vinegar also. I had to run regular water through several times after to throughly clean it out. But it worked well.
