Re: Bridestone

  • See, this is why I don't go to the pets board anymore.  I just get so irritated by how much they hassle people who don't rescue or do things by "their rules."

ditto. I went over there once asking advice on owning/caring for birds (before we got our bunny and were still deciding on what type of pet to get) so I could have a realistic idea of what it would be like. All I got at the time was a few pointy-finger lectures and no helpful advice.

I don't go over there at all because I don't have time, but also because I can't deal with some of the stupid sh!t that people post over there. The only thing I will say is that its very hard to not become jaded when you are actively involved in rescue. I've been doing it for 3 years and seeing the crap that I see and hear on a daily basis seriously wears you down. Its depressing. I am not defending the women on there, but when you see the faces of the dogs that die in shelters on a daily basis, how can you not constantly push rescue instead of buying from a breeder?

  • And Bridestone, I want to clarify that I'm not flaming you, I'm sorry if it came across that way.

When joining a place like the nest, you MUST lurk on the board(s) before posting. You will get a feel for the board, and will notice things that people say/do that piss the other posters off and get them flamed.

Pretty much any board you go on on, though, is going to flame you for bad writing/spelling/grammar/punctuation. So use spellcheck first.

Oh I totally get that and I am all for rescue and adoption as well but I don't judge people who "buy" a puppy.  I grew up in a family who "bought" puppies all my life and they all turned out great.  I get annoyed at how they seem to turn every situation of buying a puppy into getting it from a non-legit/"backyard breeder."

I just don't like people forcing their opinions on others and so many people don't go over there for that reason.  It's kind of sad because there are times when I have a legit question to ask and my first instinct is to go there but then I don't because of what they'll say.

And fwiw, I know there are a lot of losers out there who don't deserve to have pets (same goes for children) and it's sad that there are so many rescues flooded with animals to be adopted.  But adoption isn't for everyone and I think they need to keep more of an open-mind over there with that.
