Help with Video, DVD, etc.

DH and I have very little experience with digital recorders. We purchased one prior to our son's birth and we have just now reached our memory capacity and are downloading the clips to our computer. Obviously, these file sizes are large and we have an older computer so we also want to burn DVDs just so the clips are saved somewhere "safe." Eventually, we would like to do some editing, etc. Can anyone tell me in what format I should be saving these in, they download as .mpgs? Can I burn them to DVD as .mpgs or no? Will I be able to edit the clips at a later date? Is there another place I should be saving our clips? Mozy or another type service...

Re: Help with Video, DVD, etc.

  • Well, I'm no help if you want to actually watch the clips on say a DVD player later. But, if you just want to keep a backup copy, you can burn them as any file name you want and just like a data disk. You would then copy them from the DVD onto any computer and be able to edit them again.
