babysitter

Anyone around today?

How much would you pay a babysitter? Do you pay hourly or for the "night"? It will probably be four about 4 and a half hours, including giving the babe a bath, dinner and putting him to bed. Does it matter that 2 hours or more of that time he'll be sleeping?

Re: babysitter

  • It's been a while for me doing babysitting other than my SIL's kids. They do pay me $15-20 but I think that's because they want to help us out more than anything. I would think that $2.00 an hour seems about right. I don't think it makes a difference if he is sleeping or not. I would look at it as an extra job of protection. Make sure all stay good on the home fornt while you are out for the night. I usually clean up when the kids are put to bed so the parents come home to a nice looking place. It makes them feel good walking into a clean house.
  • Unless it's a really experienced babysitter - I wouldn't ask them to give the baby a bath.

As far as paying -- it's been about 8 years since I've paid a sitter.

  • Do you have to provide transportation for the baby sitter? From what time to what time?

  • We pay our high-school aged babysitters $7-$8/hour and college-aged ones $10/hour.

I don't know that does not seem like enough to me.  When I was in HS 7+years ago I usually got $30 for an evening (ie: 5pm-11pm) so that's $6 per hour.   Also I agree about not having them give a bath unless they are older (like in college).  I never gave baths until I worked as a FT nanny.

  • Our 16-year old babysitters charge $7 per hour, but I pay them $5 for the time DS is sleeping.
