front loading washer - smelly?

hey ladies.. any of you girls who have a front loader have issues w/ a mildewy yuck smell???

i just started noticing a funky smell on our towels... i think its because water collects in the rubber seal of the washer door, and gets musty smelling. have you girls had this problem - any good solutions??

thanks!

Re: front loading washer - smelly?

  • We've had that problem. We found that leaving the door open to allow the seal to dry  has kept the funky smell away. Try running a couple of loads of towels with some white vinegar in the water and leave the door open when it's done.
  • It happened to me, I think I cleaned it out as good as I could with some cleaner with bleach and then ran a load of laundry. Now I make sure to keep the door open after every use, and I've not had the problem since.
  • Ditto the pps. We've had ours for a year and never latch the door when we are finished. No mildew problems yet. Also, some of them have a 'clean the washer' cycle. If yours does I suggest running that, with just bleach, a few times a year.
  • We have the same problem (in fact a while back I posted almost the same post).  I found that running a hot cycle with about a cup of bleach helps.  Also running a cycle with about a cup of white vinegar helps.  I keep trying to leave the door open but DH keeps closing it.
