Lasik @ Virdi Eye Center?

Has anyone gotten Lasik Eye Surgery done? Google is telling me that Virdi Eye Center in R.I. is the only place in the QC that does it. Has anyone had Lasik done or had it done at Virdi?

I'm contemplating having it done. Don't know if I want it done up in the QC or down in Central Ill. DH & I are kinda wondering if it might be cheaper to get it done in the QC.

Re: Lasik @ Virdi Eye Center?

  • I had it done at the Laser Center in Madison. I can't speak for the QC places but the place I went to was great. It wasn't the cheapest place (and I'm normally a big bargin shopper) but with my eyes, I wanted to go to a place that I knew would be good. The other thing I really liked about the Laser Center was that if you keep up with your annual appointments, you get free lifetime enhancements.

I'm so glad I had it done. I figured the earlier I got it done, the less time I would still be paying for glasses and contacts so I had it done when I was 20. So far so good!

  • 2011 is the year of new glasses if I don't do Lasik. If I'm gonna do Lasik, better get it over with than wait 10 more years to do it and regret it.

One downside... I can't get pregant in the 6 months after Lasik. They can't do a "touch-up" if I am preggers. Boo. It's more the eye drops than the laser itself. I hate waiting for ANOTHER reason to TTC. It's be put off long enough.

  • I want Lasik SO bad!  I've been wearing glasses for 13 years now and contacts for 10.  I am blind as a bat.

  • Now I'm back to thinking about doing in in Peoria. There are 3 places within a hour's drive. Although it is a little less expensive to do it in RI, not enough to justify the extra drving to/from the QC for pre/post op appointments. I had one "info session" with one place, but they are $1k more than the others and I wasn't that impressed. Have info sessions with the others in early Nov, so I'll make a decision from there.

Ditto. Sadly, despite already not being able to read the big E at the top of the eye chart, my eyes still continue to get worse every year which makes me a poor candidate for lasik. My eye doc says he *thinks* within 2 years my vision will level out and I'll be able to have it done.

  • 7River- when did you DD get to be 2 years old already!!!!

The one fear I have is will my prescription change whenever I do get preggo? Doctors have told me that it after the pregnancy/BFing, that things should go back to normal in terms of my eyesight.

I went to another place near home this week. I liked it much better. Got a better vibe from the place. So they are in the top running for now.

  • Ha! I know, right? Talking in sentences and demanding to pick out her own clothes are in full force.

You'll have to let us know who you end up using.

  • I was cleaning over the weekend and found some referal cards for the Laser Center. It'd good for $250 off. So let me know if you end up at the Laser Center for some reason.

  • I think all the laser centers give you a $250 off card just for inquiring! Hehehe. One more visit next week then I think I am going to pull the trigger.
  • Eye Surgeons Associates is another option.  I have a number of friends who work there and I went there for eye infection.  It seems like a pretty good place.  They have 4 or 5 locations all around the QCA.
