Thinking about the holidays...
This year I really want to do a lot of holiday things! I live so close to portland, I wanted to know of some of your favorite things to do in the portland metro area. Thanks!
Re: Thinking about the holidays...
I'm a sucker for Christmas lights, so we really love going to Zoo Lights each year.
I also want to see Peacock Lane, the Christmas Ship Parade, and the Grotto sometime, but we haven't had a chance yet.
Pittock mansion is supposed to be decorated super pretty.
weisens, I'm pretty sure I'm going to haul Jeff off to the Holiday Ale Fest this year if I have time around school. It sounds like fun!
I completely agree with the Holiday Ale Feast (but I work it and get more beer than I should). Come earlier in the day since there is a limit of how many people can be inside the tent at once. Otherwise you have to wait in the cold.
Christmas boats, The Grotto, Zoo Lights and Pittock Mansion are all good.
I like the tree lighting in Pioneer Square the day after Thanksgiving, and the Christmas train ride by Hood River (my kid friendly, but still a nice real version of the Polar Express).
I know that some restaurants get together to have a tour of "Coffee Nudge" drinks. I'm allergic to coffee, but I remember my ex-H's female family members doing that yearly.
I think Fort Vancouver also does some decorating and events for locals around Christmas too.
Em hit most of the ones I was going to mention! The Christmas Ships are really cool so if you can, be here on a night when they're running.
If you're interested in theatre, Portland Center Stage is doing The Santaland Diaries again this year, based on David Sedaris's book. I've seen it twice - it's hilarious.
And finally, the Tree Lighting Ceremony in Pioneer Square. It's the day after Thanksgiving. H and I go every year that he isn't working that day, and it's awesome. A ton of people, but super fun and a great way to get that holiday feeling going.
Holiday ale fest! There was a groupon last year for it- maybe they'll come out with one again this year.
I went to the Christmas tree lighting @ pioneer square last year, it was totally packed and I must admit a bit disappointing. Plus, I felt bad for the tree- go figure.
Wow! Didn't know there was a Santaland Diaries show. LOVE David Sedaris!! Researching it now. Thanks dramageek!
