Hello Ladies,
Do any of you know how to get a work permit for the US?
I have googled it but only get dodgy sites that try and get my credit card details. DH and I are wanting to try living in the US after our year in NZ, but I just don't know the requirements.
Thanks in advance for any information!!!!

Re: USA Work Permit
There are a few ways to get work permit in the US, even if you do not have a greencard, but they all have qualifiers attached.
The easiest one is: have your US citizen husband, or Green Card holding husband sponsor you for a green card. With the application, the lawyers usually apply for a work permit for you, so that you do not have to stay at home during the whole process. This is the fastest and most reliable way... unless, your husband is not a US citizen, or GC holder.
The next most reliable one is to apply for a visa that comes with work permit. Examples are: H1B (work visa). This is the visa that your employer can sponsor you for. The application date is April 1st every year, and if your application qualifies, you have a high chance of getting it. If you get the approval for this visa, you need to go back to your country, to the consulare, and get it printed in your passport. You can only come back using this visa on October 1st, and that's when your work permit kicks in. There are a number of requirements attached to this visa, and you will be best equipped if you go to the USCIS.org website.
There is a one year work permit that you can apply for after you graduate from school. If you are currently at school, you can apply for it right after graduation. During the year of this permit, I would recommend searching for an employer who would be willing to sponsor you for a work visa.
There are also a bunch of other specialty visas that come in with a work permit and other attachments. You will get all the necessary information on USCIS.gov. You can use this website for all and any information. Do not use any other websites for "free forms" or other "free help" because all you need can be found and downloaded REALLY free on this website.
Good luck with your reasearch!
