Very frustrated (could be long, sorry)

Just needed to vent a little bit here, and then decide what my next step should be, if any.

Last Monday, I took my two month old to the Dr. She has a cold, and it just wasn't getting better. After she spent most of last Monday crying, I decided to take her to make sure that it wasn't anything serious. Better safe than sorry. Our appointment was at 5pm that evening.

Dr. checked her over, she said her throat looked sore, and she looked a little swollen when she looked up her nose. Her ears looked great though, and she sounded ok. She just said she had a virus, to keep up with the saline and suction if needed, and that I could continue to use baby vics on her feet with socks over them. She also said Benadryl would help with the drainage and gave me a dose to give her. She said Sudafed may also be an option but she didn't know the doseage. She would call me back before she left the office, after she heard from her ENT specialist.

Around 8pm, she called and said NOT to use the Sudafed, but that she would call me in a prescription for Rondac and to give her 1-2 drops 2x a day. She asked where I would like to have it called in. I told her, Meijer. Both girls were asleep at that point, and my husband didn't get out of class until 9, by the time he was headed home, the pharmacy was closed. Not a big deal, I would pick it up in the morning.

We got up early, since my 2yo had a Dr appointment for a bump on her back I wanted checked out. After the appointment, we went to my parents. The pharmacy called me 3x to tell me that it was filled and I could come pick it up. I called to see if our insurance covered the medicine since we had never used it before, and I forgot to grab some cash from my husband when he left that morning. The pharmacist said that he wasn't sure right off hand if it was. Which was ok, not a big deal at all. I left my parents house at 5pm. Swung by Meijer, the girl at the counter, grabbed the prescription, rang it up, rang the insurance card through, then said it wasn't covered. I told her that I would send my husband through to pick it up because I didn't have cash on me. He was leaving the office at any time, and would be by soon. She said ok. I left, and got a few groceries. My cell phone was dead, so when my husband got home. I sent him right back to Meijer, it was maybe 30min later, while I got the girls ready for bed, and settled. I was able to feed E, and get her in her pajamas. I get a call from him. It was for S right? Yes. Ok. I read E a story, and put her to bed. Then he sends me a text, they lost it. I am waiting for them to find it. He was gone AN HOUR AND A HALF. They never found it.Said they don't carry that medicine in the pharmacy all the time, they would add it to the order for Wednesday.

Wednesday morning, I call on my way out the door. The girl on the phone says that they don't have it, it didn't come on the order. She pulled it up, and they never ordered it. Said that I will for sure have it Thursday.

Thursday, I am on my way out the door to take E to the mall for a playdate. I swing through drive-thru to pick up the prescription. They have it, but they believe there is a mistake in the doseage so they have a call into the Dr. Um what? The doseage was fine on Tuesday?! You were going to give it to me on Tuesday, then you lost it. They say they can't release it until they get a call back from my Dr. they will call me when it's done. By now, I am ticked. So I get to the mall, and I call the store. I tell 4 different people the story, and come to find out, I somehow called Grandville, I still have no idea what happened. Now my cell is dead and I can't call the right store.

I get home from the play date and call the right store. I get a manager. I tell him how the week has gone. He doesn't seem concerned at all, his phone is dying, and beeping, and he can't even hear half the stuff I am telling him. He takes my number and says he will call me back. Twenty minutes later, the pharmacist calls me back.

She tells me that she had nothing to do with my prescription until that day. But that there was a concern with the strength of the medicine, which is why the pharmacist didn't give it to my husband on Tuesday. She says they had to call the Dr to confirm. She denies that it was lost. She said she wasnt sure how it didn't get on the order for Wednesday. She said that while filling it she had concerns about the doseage, so she called the Dr. that morning. she went on to tell me that babies die from this medicine and that she was concerned because of her age. She asked if the Dr told me the doseage. I said 1-2 drops 2x a day. She then said ok, since the script said the same thing i was told, I could come get it.

When I get there, it was the same pharmacist my husband talked to on Tuesday. The same one apologizing to him for losing it. Saying she had no idea how it happened. ( I of course didn't know at the time, I told my husband her name, and he described her to a T). So, she lied to me that time. And basically called my husband a liar. The next morning, my Dr's office called and said that the Dr had called in a doseage, because Meijer couldn't fill it the way she wrote it. She told me to use the 1-2 drops 2x a day dose that she had told me in the office. I thanked her and asked if the pharmacy had called her ealier in the week with concerns, and she said no. That the first time they talked to them was that Thursday morning. So, she lied again.

Needless to say, I won't be using Meijer Pharmacy again. I am tempted to write a letter to the store manager, and then corporate. I am not happy with the way things ended up. I am not one to call and complain. I don't like to get anyone in trouble. I worked retail for 15 years, I know what it's like to drop the ball sometimes, and not mean to. But to outright lie to me?

Sorry, it's hugely long!

  • I am sorry you had so much problems with them.  I have had some issues with them in the past and no longer go there for any scripts.  (So far I have been very happy CVS)

  • That's an unfortunate story.

If no one calls to complain, the problem can't be resolved.

That's beyond a minor - one time hiccup - there were several flaws that should be corrected.

A lot of time, the quality of the pharmacy depends on store management/head pharmisist.  My walgreens is wonderful, (I went after hours, the insurance denied the increased dosage in my anti-depressant, so the pharmicist on staff gave me one nights dosage $12 for free, until the Dr. could resolve the issue in the AM) but the one next to my best friend is horrid.

Maybe ask your neighbors if there is a better one closer to your house?

  • I used to nanny for a Meijer pharmacist and they treat their pharmacists terribly. He HATED the job. I wouldn't be surprised if those employees aren't happy with their job and just don't care. Not saying that is a good reason, but just my two cents :o)

  • I now use Walgreens because I had the sane problem you did. Does anyone know how the prices compares to Target and Walmart/Sam Club? Do you find it cheaper than Walgreens or generallly not?

  • And this is just another reason I'm glad I switched over to homeopathy.  I don't have to deal with pharmacies anymore!!  I don't even remember the last time I had to visit one.

But I would definitely document what did & didn't happen with your script & then let management know.  Perhaps your medication could wait a couple of days, but some people really need their medicine NOW.

Do you have a locally owned pharmacy near you?  I always had better luck with those than with any chain.
