I know the more sensible thing would be to rip up the carpets and put down flor tiles and/or keep the hardwood floors bare, but in the meantime...I have carpet throughout my bedrooms and would like to clean them. I don't want that chem dry crap in my house.
I would also prefer to do it myself, rather than hire a service. Have you had any luck with the carpet cleaner rentals from a grocery store, Sears, etc? Rug Doctor is fairly easy to rent in my area, and they do have "green" cleaning solution, but the green cleaning solutions are harder to come by.
Any suggestions?
Re: Green carpet cleaning?
I own a Bissell carpet shampooer. We use vinegar and tea tree oil in the shampoo reservoir instead of buying their chemicals.
The carpet comes out a bit more stiff than if we were to use their shampoo, but it subsides after a couple days. The house definitely smells better than if we were to use the chemicals, doesn't feel like we're suffocating ourselves.
