Please excuse me if I sound stupid..

My boyfriend and I have been invited to a commitment ceremony for a lesbian and trans-gender couple that he is acquainted with through work.To be honest I am not quite sure what is appropriate/expected when it comes to an event like this. Do the typical wedding rules still apply or are things different? I hope I don't sound stupid, I have just never been to one so I want to do my best to fit in.

These links may help. I've been to several commitment ceremonies (both straight and LGBT couples). The "rules" tend to depend of the taste of the couple. If you behave the same way you would at/before/during a wedding, (unless told differently) you should be fine.

  • Ditto Berry.  Just use common sense and you'll be fine.  My wife and I had a wedding that very much looked like a traditional heterosexual wedding.  All of our guests 'acted' as they would have at any other wedding.  Just remember that even in the straight world, wedding ceremonies vary drastically.  Some are black tie, others involve the guests in the vows, some are religious, others are not.  Go with a smile, have fun, and celebrate the happy couple! :-)

     ...wait, what?

Am I misreading something? Where did you get OP's disapproval from?

I am not sure why you think I find the hosts behavior "strange". I am quite happy for the couple. I just saw them last night. I am excited that I was invited. I have been to very few weddings in my life, and all of them have been completely different than one another. I found out ahead of time with all of them what kindof specialized services would take place, if any. That was all I was trying to do with my question.
