Ideas for Fairytale/enchanted themed Holiday party
dh and I have birthdays right around thanksgiving and we typically don't see certain family members during Christmas, so we've been combining our birthday parties with the holidays with having our christmas decor up. This way, we celebrate everything so everyone doesn't have to travel over and over.
So, any ideas on how to incorporate our birthdays and Christmas into a Fairytale or enchanted christmas party theme?
Re: Ideas for Fairytale/enchanted themed Holiday party
When I think of enchanted themed holiday party, I think of simple things. Snowflakes, the color silver, and a hint of red. What are you really looking for though?
Laurentian - HI! Ok for some reason I am obsessed with your parties/kitchen/style (in a good way,
)...With that said..I am so excited to hear about your Christmas party! What about like a Nutcracker theme, the part where they are at the party?
He's pink...

Crap...I Mean Crafts
Yep, like I said our families want to see us for our birthdays (two days apart), and for the holidays and so we have a big party to celebrate everything at once since we live so far away.
To each their own. If you aren't into having a birthday party/holiday party, that's fine. I am, and love to celebrate life, whether its a birthday party, or harvest family reunion which we had Sat. After being as sick as I have been for two yrs, you learn to celebrate life.
I also didn't ask for any opinions for what I do, just party ideas. So, if you don't have ideas for the party, and only nasty comments, then please don't respond.
See if this mood board does anything for you. There's a long write-up below it.
If that one doesn't, that's a divine photo stream and you might find some other inspiration.

lr, the duck, and minM-
I don't exactly know why you keep responding to my posts if I bother you so much. I've done absolutely nothing to you and don't understand why you keep writing negative comments to my posts just to be nasty.
If you feel such hatred for me, then don't open my posts. This way, you don't have to get angry and express it, and I don't have to weed through the nasty comments in order to find helpful posts. I'd also try and think about why you care so much about what I do where you go out of your way to comment. There are people I don't like, and I just won't even open the post. Simple and effective.
So, if you have any ideas for a theme party- fairytale/enchanted- which would also need to be catered to little ones, I'd love to hear them.
12 days of christmas themed
12 Days of Christmas
Create a party that revolves around the song 12 Days of Christmas. Write a little poem in the tradition of the song as your invitations. Use the numbers to tell the time and location of the party.
Before your guests arrive, write out all of the items from the song on separate slips of paper. This theme is best for a large party, as there can be upwards of 78 separate assignments (12 lords leaping, etc). Have each guest draw a paper from a hat. As host/hostess, write down what each guest draws. Then, give guests a sheet with all the other guest's names on it. Tell your guests they must drop hints all night about their "assignments." For example, if you received a "ring," talk about jewelry; or if you got "maids milking," the conversations you have should somehow include cows, milk, or young ladies. At the end of the evening, the person who correctly guesses everyone's assignments wins a small prize.
This is a good theme for a buffet. Offer milk products, "rings" (round donuts work well), frog's legs (green dyed cookies), and pear pie, for example. Play favorite holiday music and carols throughout the evening.
Party Item Checklist
Every party, even if it has a special theme, should have certain things. Make sure you are prepared for your party by taking this handy checklist with you while shopping for your party. Items to get include:
* Invitations
* Paper plates and napkins
* Plastic silverware
* Extra trash bags
* Christmas music
* Replacement light bulbs
* Variety of alcohol, pop, milk, and other drinks
* Small prizes for games
* Decorations to fit your theme
Several days before the party, head to the grocery store. Make a list based on the recipes, and make sure you double check your pantry before you assume you have extra items. Prep as much as you can the day before and morning of your Christmas party, so that you can enjoy as much of it as you can.
If you plan to have a formal dinner party, be sure your good dishes are clean and silverware is polished. Finding cloth napkins in a holiday theme can add a special touch to the dinner table. Keep in mind that formal affairs are more suitable to adult-only parties, while themes and buffets are much more kid-friendly.
Thank you so much!! That's so sweet of you to say.
Do you have the same type of style? Congratulations on your little one!
I ABSOLUTELY loved the nutcracker idea! That blog is gorgeous! Thank you for taking the time to show me. I think it would work well for my little nieces too.
Originally, I got the idea for a fairytale theme from an old Country Living photoshoot but it was geared for little girls. I will also be having little ones too, so I thought the enchanted theme would be fun.
I also thought about picking up some wings which will prob be on sale after halloween and doing a mini photoshoot with the kids- using my own camera. Maybe get some props too.
For a menu, I thought cake and champagne but with kid friendly foods too. This past wknd I did a Harvest Soiree but with kid activities/foods which went really well. My husband also has a santa suit he dresses up every yr for the kids, so we can do that too.
So, I need to plan the menu, time of day, invites which I want to make myself (just got a small letterpress machine)...etc But I'm off to look at that blog for more idea!
Very pretty, tar, thank you! I love the blue with cream colors. I'd like to go with white and silver but with some pastels too. That's a gorgeous invite too! I'll have to start trying to experiment with my letterpress machine to see how I do.
thank you so much for your post! The game sounds so fun and the tips are great too!
Hey! I don't actually decorate with your style, I am much more borning, but I party plan in your style
Oh and isn't that blog amazing! DId you see the Marie A. party?
I didn't realize the "enchanted" was your theme, I thought you were looking for theme ideas. You could combine that with the Nutcracker. Here is the story of the Nutcracker...
http://www.nutcrackerballet.net/html/nutcracker_story.html
You could emphasize decorations and activites on the land of snow part because that's the enchanted part, but use the Nutcracker to do your menu, like have a different scene for apps/main course/desserts etc...
Apps - diff types of cheeses and crackers as an ode to the Mouse King
Main - your italian dishes
Desserts - do a table of desserts to represent the different dances, sugar plums (or something plum), Baked alaska as your cake/snow scene or cupcakes with coconut to look like snow balls. Glass jar with your pastel jelly beans to incorporate the colors, cookies, anything with sugar crystals!!!
signature cocktail -"The Nutcracker" to go with champagne
http://supercocktails.com/9067/nutcracker
I would use vanilla vodka, and half and half instead of ice cream, so you can do them martini style instead of frozen. or really any drink with amaretto and frangelico. Maybe a white chocolate dipped mini-biscotti as a garnish? (You could even dye the white choc pastel colors!)
and you could have egg nog for your mocktail, with the mini-biscottis or a cinnamon stick
oh I could go on for hours....
Ok - I can't stop...
Activities/Crafts -
Snowflakes - get pretty pearlized paper to fold and cut out snow flakes
"tag" - the person who is "it" is the nutcracker, and everyone else are the mice. You could even get those foam swords.
freeze dance - play the nutcracker music as the kids dance like ballerinas, pause it and you have to freeze, if you move, you are out
Snow globes - you can make snow globes with little baby food jars, hot glue a figurine to the inside of the lid, put baby oil and iridescent/silver glitter in, close, tie a ribbon around the outside of the lid to finish off
you could also make tutus ahead of time (not sure how many kids there are) to go with the wings. I made one for my daughter for halloween, and it is really easy/quick/reasonable
http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-make-a-tutu
Your invitations could be scrolls... sent out in mailing tubes. You can also use a font to look like childrens writing. Make it a cookie exchange party so everyone goes home with dozens of cookies for the holidays. The theme could be christmas's past and you can all dress in differnt costumes from different years of your lives. Hope that helps.
Lisa, WOW! You have fantastic ideas!! I love them!!
For the menu, if I didn't go Italian, what would you suggest to go with the theme? I was thinking of doing just appe,desserts/champagne but would need some substantial apps, since people will be traveling and will be hungry.
The pearlized paper turned into snow snowflakes sound beautiful. I can make large ones to hang from the ceiling. The globes sound like a wonderful favor, too.
Love the idea of making tutu's for the girls.
I'm going to head to walmart this wknd to see if I can get them on sale.
I'm going to have to read up on the nutcracker.
YES, I saw the MA party! Gorgeous! Actually, there was a post in response to her post which was the blog I found the inspiration for my party on. Both look fantastic!
Im pming you
I love the scroll idea! Glittery font...I also think a cookie exchange would be great, too but i think I might use that for small gtg with a few girlfriends- some hot cocoa, carols..etc
