Where do you spend the holidays?

Last year my parents came to DH's Grandparents for Thanksgiving.  My sister was living in VA at the time and my Grandma was visiting my Aunt & Uncle in DE.  It worked out really well.  Before that DH & I would each go to our own parents and meet up at the hockey game.  Not sure about this year though...I guess we should decide soon!

We spend X-Mas Eve with my parents and X-Mas morning/afternoon with DH's family.  Then we go back to my family in the late afternoon.  I think that will stay the same this year since DD won't really get X-Mas.  Next year we'll probably have everyone come to us...or figure out something that's "fair".

Re: Where do you spend the holidays?

  • I have a real easy gig -

My parents are now in Florida for the entire winter so Tgiving will be just me spending time with DH and the pooch doing absolutely nothing which will be nice for a change and I can even stay in my jammies if I want to.  NO clue how to make a turkey but we will figure something out.

(His parents are permanent residents of Florida so we never have to share any holiday and his sister lives in DC and does her own thing)

X-mas my parents are coming home and I will be hosting xmas eve this year at my house (my sister and I switch on and off every year) and then xmas day we are at my mom's from morning till night, then we take a ride to grandma's house for like an hour or 2.

nice and easy!! just the way I like it.

  • We alternate Thanksiving and Christmas with DH's family (1 hour away) and my sister and her family (local.) The rest of my siblings/nieces/nephews are all over the country so we don't all gather in the winter- we do a summer get together (easier travel)

I'm hoping that next year we will be in a home that's more conducive to hosting- I would love to have everyone at our house.  Besides the fact that when we have holidays "at" the inlaws it's really at a restaurant, which I find horribly depressing.

  • My family lives in Connecticut, and is kind of a CF for the holidays and DH's family is local, so every holiday is done here in the Cuse.

Thanksgiving this year is either at DHs aunts house or his Dads house

Xmas Eve is at our house

Xmas Day is at our house, then DHs Dads House for Breakfast, then to DHs Aunts house for dinner.

We'll usually go to CT during the Xmas/New Years Week and have a nice dinner and present opening with both my mom and dad separately.

  • We eat Thanksgiving dinner with one family (alternates each year) and dessert at the other house. Xmas eve is with my family for a bit and then Jeff's extended family also. Xmas day is morning at my parents (we sleep there when in NY), then Jeff's family and Xmas day dinner alternates each year. It's the only way to be fair bc it was such a headache before trying to make time. So if we have Tgiving dinner with one, we have xmas dinner with the other and it switches the next year.
  • Well we've flown home to CA for a few holidays over the years. But the last several years we've spent Thanksgiving with Abba and her DH.  It's our new holiday tradition and I love it!  Christmas will be spent here this year and we are hoping to have family fly out for NYE.

  • For Thanksgiving, we usually go to my aunt's house for drinks and appetizers and then go to my in-laws for the "main event" because Thanksgiving is a really big deal to DH.

For Christmas, we spend Christmas Eve and Christmas morning at my parents house with my brothers and their families.  We go to my in-laws for dinner on Christmas.  Christmas is a HUGE deal in my family and not so much for my in-laws so it works out.

  • We spend Tgiving with DH's family.  Since my mom died when I was little and I don't talk to my father it makes it a no brainer.  Last year we went to my aunt's house in Rochester for the evening which I would like to do again.

Christmas Eve we had just started rotating between our house and my sister and BIL's.  However, she is now getting divorced so it will be at our house again.  Christmas day we go to my IL's for dinner.  I hosted one year and would like to again, but DH really loves his mom's cooking so it seems silly for her to bring stuff here.

  • We do both sets of parents on Thanksgiving. My parents eat early - like noonish and his family eats around 5 so it gives us a little bit of time.

Christmas Eve we do with my family because we do the whole no meat thing and then we do Christmas day with his family.

  • At home with DH and the puppies!  He has worked midnights the past two years on Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I honestly don't mind one bit.

Last year, we had time off before Thanksgiving, so we went back to OH and had a crazy-stressful time trying to fit everyone in, and DH's family STILL gave us a hard time about spending time with them vs. my family. Same deal around Christmas.

This year, my sister is overseas on a study abroad, so my parents are going to visit her over Christmas.  My parents and brother and his family are getting together with us the weekend before Christmas, and then we also have time off between Christmas and NY when we're going to spend more time with my brother and some friends we haven't seen in a while.

We aren't seeing DH's family at all, and I'm not bothered by that at all.  Why drive so far to spend time with people who don't want to see you anyway?

  • Thanksgiving is spent with Two and her DW (and now we have the babies- yay!)- I love this tradition...

X-mas eve we go to DHs family and X-Mas day we go to binghamton: my dad's house in the am and then to my cousin's house and the whole family comes over...I think this year we might stay for the day after xmas too...

  • Its different every year, pretty much.

Thanksgiving (see whine) was going to be out, but now I might cook.

Xmas Eve - I usually have a few people over our place.  SD stays overnight.

Xmas Day - we do family stuff with SD at our place, then go to my Mom's and visit MIL in the nursing home.  Dad sometimes makes an appearance, but we usually don't see him.

  • Thanksgiving is spent at the IL's, as it is their BIG holiday together.  Thought the last two years my parents and uncle (the only local family I have) have come along so I get to enjoy both families together.

X-mas eve is spent with the IL's in Buffalo (they have always celebrated on xmas eve since Dh and his brother stopped believing in Santa) .

X-mas morning we drive back to Rochester and spend the rest of the morning with my parents and uncle.  Then we go over to my mom's cousin's house to spend the rest of the day with my extended family.

We are lucky to have such and easy situation.  Though I'm sure it will get more complicated once we have kids.

  • We used to try to alternate, but DH's family really doesn't do Xmas like mine. His parents don't even get a tree.  I can't deal with it. So, we go to my family for Xmas.  Mostly we stayed with DH's family for thanksgiving, but we are going to mine for that this year too because there are some showers and baptisms going on that weekend while far flung family is in town. I'm pretty excited to see everyone!  However, the holidays we do spend with DH's big fat greek family are awesome.  My favorite is easter.  They had a lamb on a spit in the backyard a few years ago.  Awesome.
