Help with planning a dessert party!
i'm having a jewelry party on the 14th and i'm going to do all desserts.
i figure if i make everything mini sized too, it'll be easier.
drinks will include: coffee, tea, wine and champagne.
desserts:
mini cupcakes
mini cheesecakes
choc chip cookies
mini brownies
choc cov pretzels
choc cov strawberries
fruit salad
mini pumpkin bars
mini strawberry shortcakes
ok, so tell me what to add and what to drop. i know what i like dessert
wise, but i'm looking for what other people like. i was thinking of
making a regular sized cake (not sure what kind). also, i'm thinking of
having little take home boxes as well.
oh and i want it to be supergirly, so any plates/decorations you see,
please point them out! also, if you read any fun party planning blogs,
please post the links!
Re: Help with planning a dessert party!
I personally think making everything mini can make things harder, not easier, because there's that much more detailing that has to be done, but it's a cute idea. Just allow yourself enough time.
How many people?
I'd scratch strawberry shortcake, even though I see what you were trying to do, because not only is out of season, it'd be difficult to perch with. Consider replacing it with maybe a jam thumbprint cookie or raspberry bars.
I'd try to add in something else fall flavored so your pumpkin bars aren't all by themselves. Maybe a topping or flavor for the cheesecakes in addition to plain?
You definitely do not need a cake. You have cupcakes already and I don't actually know anyone who really likes cake. They'll eat it when it's there, but I can't think of a soul who says yes please to cake when given other choices.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
I would maybe consider having plain fruit instead of a fruit salad. I suggest this mostly b/c personally, I like to pick and choose the fruit that I like.
Also, I know it's a dessert party and guests will know it's a dessert party, but would you consider a veggie tray and possible a simple platter of cheese/crackers/nuts just to add some salty to all that sugar?
I agree with PP about maybe swapping out the shortcake for some sort of little tart. And I like the idea of pumpkin cheesecake too.
Perhaps do the strawberry shortcake as a real cake...I would just make one of the minis a real cake.
What about a baked brie as something a little savory to add?
Here are some things I did at my dessert/cocktail party:
mini lemon meringue pies (in store-bought mini tart shells. Sur La Table has them.)
Chocolate mint pies (in same shells)
Mock baklava (nut mix drizzled with honey and lemon juice) in mini phyllo cups
Cream puffs
Piroulline cookies (those chocolate filled straw things)
