SLR camera

Hi I am looking into buying a new camera. I currently have a point and shoot sony but I would like a SLR. Could you please recommend one under $500.

Thanks

Re: SLR camera

  • I have a Nikon D40 and LOVE it.  There are so many features that I'll probably never learn, but it's a great out of the box point and shoot SLR camera. Very easy to use.

  • i have the D40 also, i didnt buy it to become an instant professional photographer like a lot of people do(for some reason i have a few friends who think they are photographers now that they have SLR) but i bought it because it takes really sharp clear pics and there is no delay.

i dont think they make the D40 anymore but i think the D3000 is the next one up....i might be wrong.

  • I have a nikon d5000, I think including a lens, it was about $800, but I love it! I just took it to Niagara Falls and took some awesome shots! I'm still getting used to using a digital camera versus a film camera, but that's the only frustration I have had.
  • I have the Sony a230. I think it's a really good intro camera, especially if you're kind of clueless about photography like I was :) I believe it's less expensive than the canon and nikon equivalent models, and the interface is very user friendly and geared towards helping you learn the different features

  • I am a canon shooter, and I started out with a canon rebel, I would look at those.  I don't know if you have ever gone over to the photography board on the bump

We have the D3000, which is basically the same thing but without video and live view, you have to use the viewfinder, which I prefer.  We took it to Europe over the summer and the pictures are fantastic!  I will never to back to point and shoot.

  • I just bought (on Sunday) the Fujifilm finepix S1800. It has simple point and shoot ability as well as manual features and video with sound. I got it from Target because I work there and I get a discount, but it's currently on sale for 179.00.
