Why DD thread on Baby Shower

OP, it's really annoying when you DD. We take time to write our responses and you delete them?!? Other posters and lurkers could benefit from the responses as well.

Cheap in-laws??

-->

My family is throwing me a baby shower (mom & dad, even tho they are divorced), and they went all out, renting a venue and everything for the 70+ guest event. They are not rich or anything near it. My in laws haven't offered to pay for anything except my MIL who is making some salads for the event (By the way, I have a FIL, MIL, SIL and BIL). They haven't giving us anything for the baby yet (everyone around me has at least given us a pair of booties) and for the baby shower gift, they choose the crib mattress ($100).

Im I being a *** because this bothers me?

Are you taking off your shirt in your icon picture?

And yeah... gifts are acts of generosity. Don't expect them.  It makes you look gift grabby.

Yes, you're being a biitch. A baby shower is a gift, not a right. It was your parents choice to throw this party and not your IL's.

I would be THRILLED if someone offered to buy us the crib mattress. Wouldn't you rather have people buy you stuff you NEED than cute, yet probably useless, things like booties?

Stop being a whiny brat.

They are not rich or anything near it. My in laws haven't offered to pay for anything except my MIL who is making some salads for the event (By the way, I have a FIL, MIL, SIL and BIL). If she's making salads (plural!), then she is paying/contributing.

They haven't giving us anything for the baby yet (everyone around me has at least given us a pair of booties) Maybe in their culture/family tradition, they don't give gifts until the shower. That is pretty typical, IMHO.  Some families don't even give gifts until after the baby is born (superstitious). Just because their way is different doesn't make their way wrong.

and for the baby shower gift, they choose the crib mattress ($100). How do you know what they are giving for a shower gift if the shower hasn't occurred yet?  The gift sounds generous to me.

Im I being a *** because this bothers me?

You need to stop comparing your family to your ILs. Families have different traditions. It doesn't make your ILs cheap. Be grateful your family is throwing you a shower. Be grateful for any gifts you receive, since you chose to have a baby and therefore are ultimately responsible for providing for that child (not your ILs or your parents.)

The bunny thinks you should lurk before you post.

Re: Why DD thread on Baby Shower

  • Nice catch Bunmom, I caught it too and was just about to post it.
  • Seriously... I was more comfortable with the idea that she was taking her shirt off than knowing she was topless.

And I'm probably the most unphotogenic person in the world, but surely low angles are not good maternity angles....

  • I'm more annoyed that the stupid nest error message kept preventing me from posting a reply - finally I'm not having net issues anymore and the post is gone. Blah. I was pretty much trying to say the same thing. Don't be greedy - they'll buy the baby stuff when they feel like it. As for the shower take what you can get - it's a gift, not an obligation. And maybe the ILs didn't want to step on her parents' totes since they were the ones planning the shower in the first place.

  • Toes! I meant TOES not totes. And I just realized the reason why I kept getting the error message when I tried to post was because she DD'd the post. I was a li'l slow yesterday...

Wow. Way to reinforce the stereotype of catty women talking smack about each other's appearance. You should feel awesome about your contribution to the discussion...
