Re: Judgey mcjudgersons, confessions, open letters, wtfever.
I'll go first, why not.
I judge married women who hyphenate their name. I just can't help it.
I also used to judge women (particularly on TK/TN) who would be happy that their FI/DH was gone for a night or weekend, thinking to myself "Why the hell would you want want to be apart from them for so long?".. and now that I'm living with DH & married, I totally understand it - it is so nice & necessary to have a break from eachother & time to yourself.

I confess that I'm happy it's Friday but I'm not that happy bc I still have to work on Sunday.
I confess that there is a huge bowl of candy for trick-or-treaters at work and I want to eat it all!
I confess that DH and I are going out to eat at a restaurant but I also wanna go to Max Brenner's but we can't afford to go to two places!
can i ask why this bothers you? not trying to start beef, just curious why you would judge a woman for wanting to keep her families name as well as add her husbands?
Blog
No beef! I understand it's an unpopular opinion and everyone has their own reasoning.. I just feel as though it complicates things when it comes to the name, especially when you have children. I think if you want to keep your family name as a middle name, that makes more sense since it's not always out there, I just don't think it needs to be in conjunction with your husbands name.. it seems like the ultimate form of snobbery to me. I understand wanting to keep the name if you're established under it for that sake (publications, companies, etc.), but to keep it just because? Are they "too good" for their husband's name?
Like I said, this is a complete judgement & I'm not saying it's right at all, lol.
09.25.10
i dont think that it is aboutbeing too good for your husbands name, but it is about showing a love to your own family too. i know that there is more to a family than a last name, but i think a lot of women like to keep that history right there in their names.
as for the kids argument, i think that is totally invalid. (again, not trying to start beef!) but as a child growing up with two last names i loved having both sets of my parents and grandparent's names in my own name. it was wonderful, i never thought "woe is me, my name is too long and i am confused about who i am" because of it.
Blog
I confess that as much as I want a "real" teaching job, I secretly enjoy days that I don't get sub calls. I love teaching and it is what I am supposed to be doing, but I think I am much more happy to be a stayathome wife, eventually mom.
I confess that I desperately want internet at home, but can't bring myself to pay for it yet. We don't have many options since we live in the boonies, and it is just silly to pay for if we don't 'need' it. My blackberry suffices most of the time, but I am horribly addicted to farmville *dodges rocks thrown at head*
Dear Hubby,
I love you, and I know that you make more money than I do, even if I did have a 'real' job, but I seriously envy the fact that you have so many more "toys" than I do. The toolbox you bought is pretty much the same price as the DSLR that I have been coveting for oh so long. I need to just leave it alone b/c you do spoil me in a lot of ways, and our bills are paid every month, but I see so many things I want that I just can't bring myself to buy on my limited budget. *sigh* Guess I will just have to get.over.it.
Love, your Wife, who eventually will have some things she wants too, whether you realize it or not. *insert evil laugh here*
I agree with shauni.........I have hypenated my last name all because I will always be a Mullen I come from a long generation who orignal came over on a boat from Ireland. I feel its part of me, do I love my husband and was honored to take his last name I just dont feel I should have to lose part of who I am for my marriage. I am taking it as my middle name so as far as children they will just be Baby Hardie.......I think its really to each person they have their own belief. I have a co worker who has 3 last names.....shes from Canada and its her fathers, her mothers, her married name. No beef intented!
I kept my maiden name as my middle name. I didn't want to lose it.
I confess that I just had a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks and it was so good! I went light on the whip so it wasn't all that bad.
speaking of Beef...
I wore fishnet stockings and high heeled boots with a short sweater dress into the office today. I felt mildly self conscious cause Shauni talked about slutty dressing women the other day (on halloween costume thread).
However, I passed at least two other women in business suits (one's skirt was shorter than mine) and I felt validated. hahaha
Sorry Shauni. Can you love me even if I dress like a whore? I'm going ot be 35 soon. I have to enjoy it while it lasts.
TTC since 2010

Dear H,
I need sleep. I get cranky when I don't get enough sleep. And yes, I could've gone to bed while you were in the shower. However, it takes me at least half an hour to fall asleep, and you come in just as I'm about to. Which then leads to me needing another half hour to get to sleep. And you know I can't sleep in tomorrow.
Your sleep deprived wife.
Dear co-worker,
Finish what you started. You've known there's a virus on my computer. You also repeatedly admitted you're not an IT guy. Since you don't know WTF you're doing, don't act surprised when the virus doesn't go away. If you don't know what you're doing, then YOU need to find someone who can fix my computer. You ARE the equipment manager. Manage it!
Frustrated co-worker
I judge people we are vegetarians for no reason whatsoever. I get it if your against animal cruelty, if its for health reasons or if you just don't like meat, but doing it at 18 to be a part of the cool kids and continuing for 42 for no real reason is weird to me. every time we go to lunch you must let everyone in the world know that you cant have meat drives me CRAZY!! Seriously, its a choice you made so pick something on the menu that fits your choice and shut-it.
Okay, so that was a judge/vent about someone....
J, my DH -
Can I for once in our married life so far get to hold the remote & watch whatever I please for an hour or two? The constant Xbox and SportsCenter blaring from the 50" are driving me BSC.
Love,
The boss

I totally agree with this, and I'm veg. There's always SOMETHING you can have that is veg at a restaurant - sometimes it might be a yummy veggie burger & others it might only be a garden salad. It's part of the sacrifice and lifestyle. If you don't like it, revert back. You're not better or a saint for not eating meat, and even more so if you're doing it for the wrong reasons. True vegs don't pull a "woe is me" everytime they go out to eat.

I'd like to forward this to my DH. I was half watching something the other night, and he thought I wasn't paying attention and it would be ok to start watching a video on his computer. At full volume.
He also likes to fill up the DVR with stupid MMA fights. I tried to record something last night (Grey's) and it cut off because he was recording a fight AND It's Always Sunny. The cable bill is in MY name damnit! I should get DVR priority - esp if I rarely get to watch live TV because of you.
(Hmm. There was more frustration there than I realized)
I confess that I want to see Alicia in the outfit she described. RAWR!
I don't know why, but even though I don't mind when women hyphenate, I found it odd when a guy I knew hyphenated. Even though I have seen it on the boards, and even suggested it as an alternative (when people say that they want the same last name), when I saw it on his FB my initial reaction was, "That's weird."
Whoa, so he took his wife's name & hyphened it with his? Wow. He's one of the very few men I believe would actually let that happen.. all the guys I've spoken to, including DH, are super territorial when it comes to their family name.
09.25.10
my dad hyphenated his last name when he married my mom. he is daddy mom's last name-his last name. my parents made a decision that they wanted to accept each others families and their histories completely.
Blog
And I think that makes a lot of sense. That's why I'm a little ashamed of my initial judging of it. I think it's fine now, and makes more sense than just the woman doing it. I have a feeling it might start to be a little more common.
One all-beef patty special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed bun!
I confess that I am f%$(@G TIRED of the goddamn crazy on the streets. Between the homeless lady always going on about the white devil and being EVERYWHERE in the train station and the guy I saw at lunch today with a Dunkin Donuts bag taped to his head ranting about how blacks and women are effing smart alecks, I have HAD IT! I know they can't help it, but WE CAN and they should be off the streets and getting treatment somewhere where they can't scare people with their outbursts.
Dear Good For Nothing Manic Crazy AHOLE SIL:
So, you got a part time job working 15 hours a week after 9 years of sitting on your a$$ whining about how you have no money, taking charity from people who work hard and taking government money when you were capable of working, drinking and doing drugs and lying about both, smoking top o' the line cigarettes but wah wahing about how you can't afford underwear, not parenting your children or providing them with a safe and clean home, not recognizing large events in your family member's lives such as weddings/showers/baby births with gifts but expecting everyone to shower you with gifts, causing problems in your family and in general alienating everyone.
So sorry I'm not applauding your efforts to join the work force like the rest of the free world. You should've been working all along, just like you should've been parenting all along. You are selfish and horrible and I will never like you. Now, good day. I SAID GOOD DAY.
Your reluctant SIL
Love that!
I judge people who judge people.
Take that.
ZOMG! I thought I was alone!! K is obsessed with the local rock station's website b/c the morning guys post funny youtube links, jokes, half-naked chicks, etc. I was watching a show the other week and he had to keep clicking on the damn video links. Get a life!!
ETA: Oh, yeah, this is a vent thread. Oops.
Dear H - I know I am being a crazy hormonal pregnant woman right now. Unfortunately, you're just going to have to live with it. And, no, you don't get to have a meltdown just because you did bad at bowling. When you can carry around this baby instead of me, then you may complain. Mwah.
Dear Mittens - You are my oldest cat and I love you very dearly. But if you don't stop peeing in the kitchen, your daddy may very well throw you out of the house. Please, please, please find it in your heart (and bladder) to use the litter box - and ONLY the litter box. Love, mommy.
Dear boxes - please unpack yourselves. kthxbye.
"Vegetarians" who eat fish are really considered pescatarians. They eat only fish, so yeah, they're not politically correct vegetarians.. it's just easier to group it that way since most people do not know wtf a pescatarian is. I know I didn't before I was vegetarian.. and yes, I don't eat anything with a face including fish.

Steffiel, do you judge us girls who don't change their name?
I hope I didn't offend you with initial my judgement, Shauni. That wasn't my intention and I understand my opinion isn't for everyone - it could also be my ignorance to the whole thing & my experience with some people who have a hypentated names (i.e., getting bitched at at work for not including their maiden name - hi, I don't know what name to use?).. it's bad for me to stereotype it, because everyone is different and I think what your parents did to keep the family name going is beautiful.
09.25.10
I confess that I'm with Stef, even though I don't particularly judge people for hyphenated names I just don't get it.
I also confess that since its the end of the month I have a bunch of stuff that needs to be done but I'm having a really hard time getting motivated. I just can't stay off the internet today.
I judge the guy H works with who is always too tired to work and H ends up picking up his shifts and I never get to see him. I really want to tell him (coworker, not H) that once the baby comes you will need MONEY to raise it! They work at a job were you don't work you don't get paid!
You are a good friend but H had to work on our 1 mo annivsary and now he has to work Sunday (which is family day since it is the only day we both have off toether) becasue said coworker is picking up a shift on saturday and can't work on sunday too.
