home at last...

Okay, I am officially home again. I just took a faboo shower and feel much better in that respect.

I am confused, though. I really don't know what to expect. I'm going to call the on-call tomorrow (I don't care for today's) because I just don't understand what I am supposed to do, since I was sent home still having contractions.  I guess we will just have to see.

Re: home at last...

  • You were sent home still having contractions??? Huh??? That is really weird, Heather....take it easy, that's what you should do!
  • I think your contractions probably are not making any progress, and they feel safe to send you home?  However any extra activity could send you into preterm labor and that is probably what they want to avoid at this point.  Thats my educated guess = )   So... take it easy, prepare as much as you can and let nature take its course = )
  • Take it super easy and call the on call with ANYTHING that seems different or concerning. I'm really surprised they sent you home like this. From your other posts it seems like you're pretty high risk right now ... Just keep a super close eye on yourself.

As far as EH, I'm not going to push it because I feel like a walking advert sometimes, but some OB practices affiliate with ceratin hospitals by preference. Some will autimatically send you to DH and not tell you about EH at all. We can certainly take care of a 30 week preemie (we deliver as early as 24 weeks just like everyone else), and are much closer to home for you. If you're inclined, you can ask your OB about us. I assure you we could take excellent care of Molly in a very different environment than DH. Perhaps while you're relaxing you could check out both websites? Unfortunatly due to politics you likely won't be sent to us unless you ask specifically. Don't let them tell you we can't handle you or Molly. We do this every day just like they do. Ok, I'm done ... won't say another word about it, I promise!

Hope you get all the rest you need!

  • I won't lie. I was surprised too. But I figure they know more than I do. I'm not too comfortable about it, but I will pick up the phone if I don't feel right. I had a weirdly low BP measurement (105/47) today before I was dismissed, too, and that kind of threw me for a loop on top of everything else. However, I can't argue that they say I haven't made any progress. My experience there was definitely not the best (I called my OB's nurse in tears Thursday afternoon), but I have never been pregnant and threatening premature delivery in a super busy hospital like that, so I don't know if my treatment was the norm or not. I will be bringing it up to my OB because I would rather go to Boston if necessary than try DH again. (sorry if I insult anyone by saying that)

Thank you for giving me the information. I will definitely check out the website.

  • Heather, its been my experience in the past w/ dealing with pts. that alot of doctors offices whether is be OB/ Internal med/ pediatrics etc are inclined to send pts. to DH rather than Boston, or even Elliot.   As a pt. you have the right to be sent and treated where you are most comfortable.  Obviously there are certain situations where it may be necessary to send someone to DH, but in this case and as Melissa has pointed out.. Elliot is just as good as DH and fully prepared to handle this.  This reminds me.. I have a friend who delievered her daughter about 2 months early due to eclampsia.  She initially wanted to deliver at CMC w/ her midwife, but was transferred to Elliot and that is where she stayed.  So case in point... Elliot would be my choice = )
  • Oh heather please get some rest, You poor thing!  I hope you can get some better answers from the on-call md tmw!  Good Luck girl!  I am sure you didn't get any in the damn hospital, I still have shivers when I think of my hospital stay and lack of sleep lol!
  • I'm glad you're home and definitely take it VERY easy!  If things don't feel right, trust your gut.  Sometimes as patients we need to be our own advocates.

(And a side note, thank you to Maura and Melissa for your insight - I think all of us expectant moms appreciate getting information like that!)

Remember that I'm right down the road if you need anything ... not that I can do much, but we're here!!!   :)

  • Welcome home Heather! Best of luck to you and Molly and your fam!

  • hey lady! glad youre back home but DEFINATLY TAKE IT SUPER EASY! ok!!!!!

im still keeping you guys in my thoughts!!!!

and let me know if theres anything you need!~

  • I'm glad you are home and I read about your experience.  If you wind up back in the hospital (which I hope that you will NOT, of course), I agree with your thoughts about where you should go.

Take it easy and call the OB if anything at all changes.

  • Thanks, Laura. :) Sometimes it's hard to know if you just are being strange and your treatment is normal, or if you just aren't being taken care of in the way you should be. Your reaction makes me feel better.
  • I am glad you're home and am sure that your family is taking good care of you.  Keep a low profile (as much as you can with Alex around!) and post if we can do anything.

My friend delivered at EH at 27 weeks and had an amazing experience.  Her son Aidan is doing just perfectly.

But, as someone who just found out that she'll most likely be having her baby at B&W in Boston, I say go with your gut, girl!  It's been right all along!

  • I am glad you are home. Kick back and relax. I hope all goes well for you. Keep us updated.
  • OMG Heather, I am just getting a chance to get on-line & catch up on everything.  What a scary few days you have been through!  I pray that little Miss Molly stays put for as long as possible!  Take it easy!

P.S--My nephews were born at 27 weeks & spent 3 months in the NICU at Elliot.  They are now very happy, healthy & active 5 year olds!
