Unique Christmas Gifts

Now that we're married we're really trying to watch our money so that we can move into a larger home.  I am trying to come up with a unique, but inexpensive Christmas gift for our parents.

Any ideas?

Re: Unique Christmas Gifts

  • -cross stitch

    -scrapbook

-calender (make it yourself with the help of Costco) My parents do this every year for our family. They put in all the birthdays, anniversaries etc for whoever they're making it for.

    - IOU cards for whatever. A lunch date, more time just hanging out, a phone date, help with some big project...

  • I make a photo album each year for my mother in law.  I include the family pictures from all the events that occurred during the past year.  She loves it.

  • If you might want to do a photobook, keep an eye out for Walgreens and CVS free photobook offers. They'll do a cash back system - buy a photobook at 7.99, get 7.99 back to spend next time. If you don't already have a Shutterfly account and sign up they'll send you some great offers - I got a free photobook when I signed up.

We are in the little-money-for-gifts group, so we've done baskets with homemade goodies (soup mix jars, brownie mixes, cookies, etc.) or theme baskets geared toward that family/person:

    Books, coffee, coffee mug, biscotti

Movies (bought cheap on black Friday), popcorn and candy

for artist sister - sketch book, supplies gathered in a decorative pot

You get the idea. People love homemade foods and the themed baskets have been a big hit.

  • I don't know what your plans are, but if they're planning on cooking/serving Christmas dinner, offer to plan, prepare, cook, etc. for them.
  • depends, what's your budget?
  • Baked goods
  • make cookies or treats and give those as gifts. those are the best, imo, when you dont' have a lot of $ to spend. the thought and time spent makes them very special-and yummy! between that and a thoughtful handwritten card i think you'll be fine-especially if they know you're saving for something special. but, since it's parents, i dont think that you should skimp too much. throw in a bottle of wine with the cookies etc...

also-you can do things with them instead of gifts. for example-invite them over for a nice dinner that you'll cook, go ice skating, take them wine tasting if you have local vineyards.

  • A couple years ago all i did was go out and but a couple tins then baked a bunch of different cookies and gave some to everyone for presents.  I had no money at all.
