I can't believe it's already November! DH and I have our family Christmas card photo's this weekend (read: DH, me, and the puppy = family- ha!). I can't believe it's time for Christmas Cards already!
So, I'm hosting Thanksgiving again this year, and while I did it last year, I only cooked part of it, and purchased the rest...and would like to full on cook this year. I know we have a lot of super awesome bakers/cooks on here...so I'm looking for some help...I made the stuffing and mashed potatoes from scratch last year...but that's it... any recommendations (and recipes) for a not so great cook/even worse baker?

So I hosted Christmas for Cj's family last year and I made everything from scratch, I can find the recipies when I get home and email them to you if you would like
It was super easy peasy and alot you can make a head and they will taste better the next day. Also idk how you make your Turkey but we do it in the bag and we put onion and celery inside and then smear the outside with Mayo and Rubbed Sage and it is so moist and flavorful and DELISH!
let me know what you need and I can find something
ETA: I also have this super yummy recipe for pumpkin pie cake!

Last year I did Christmas, and this year I'm doing Thanksgiving!
I made this last year, and it was awesome http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/not-your-mamas-green-bean-casserole-recipe/index.html
This is our first holiday season away from the family back in Philadelphia and New Jersey so we are kind of sad about that, but convinced to make our own traditions as a newly married couple!
All your recipes just sound delicious and are making me hungry!!
i LOVE thanksgiving!!! heres a dressing recipe from my grandma!! everyone loves it...
Cornbread Dressing
Ingredients
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter; add the onions and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Cook, stirring often, until light golden, about 6 to 8 minutes and remove from the pan to a small plate. Raise the heat to medium-high and add the water, scraping up the brown bits from the bottom of the skillet and allowing the water to simmer just a couple of minutes to infuse in the onion flavor. Remove from the heat.
Put the cornbread in a large mixing bowl. Melt the remaining 6 tablespoons butter in a small pan over medium heat and let it bubble until the milk solids to start to turn golden. Add the sage leaves and briefly fry until beginning to crisp, about 30 seconds. With a slotted spoon, remove sage and put on top of cornbread to drain and crisp. Remove the butter from the heat. Add the eggs and cooked onions to the cornbread and pour the browned butter over the mixture. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Add the onion infused water, a tablespoon at a time, gently folding, until cornbread is evenly moistened but not soggy. Pour the dressing into a dish and bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown in color and the dressing is set in the middle, about 30 minutes.
I have made this Turkey the past 3 years and it is amazing! It is super moist and yummy!
I also make ranch mashed potatoes and something with sweet potatoes. Everything else always changes and I'm not sure what I'm going to do this year. For dessert I will be making Apple Dumplings. They are super easy and OMG are they delicious!!!
Jenn -
Have you ever had my mom's apple sweet potatoes (I forget what she actually calls them)? They are AMAZING. One of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving - like to DIE for. And I don't even like yams/sweet potatoes.
I will see if I can get the recipe for you if you are interested.
My Mum does apple sweet potatoes too! I love them.
I made these last year for Thanksgiving and I bet I will have to again. Everyone loved them and they were gone in like 5 mins.

You guys are awesome!!!
Somer- yes any and all recipes!!
Thanks so much! I'm kinda getting excited... maybe nervous- I don't know... I guess I can try to cook, if it doesn't work I can always go purchase
I would maybe suggest do a practice meal of what you plan on making so that if you make any mistakes or something doesn't come out the way you want it to you have time to fix it.
Don't stress too much! It should be a fun experience, and with recipes, you definitely can get er done!
Last year I just spent a few days searching through books/websites for recipes that sounded cool. I made sure to make a few things that were just basic - mashed potatoes, rolls, mu Mum's stuffing...and only went "all out" with a few new recipes. That way I knew there would be edible items even if I screwed up with the new recipes
