Hi ladies, I know I don't post on here much anymore, but I was hoping some of you ladies would have some advice for me. I'm about 20 week pregnant (!!!) and know that I need to find daycare soon. All the Bump boards make me feel like I'm way behind the game since I didn't have my unborn child signed up before s/he was even conceived.
How did you find your daycare? I don't have any friends in my area with kids (I actually don't have any friends with kids in daycare) so I can't ask for recs. Do you have any suggestions other than Googling "Ahwatukee Daycare?" (I live in Ahwatukee.)
Thanks in advance wonderful Nesties!
Re: How to find a daycare?
oh my gosh! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! was this announced before? did i miss or or do i just have a terrible memory?
i honestly don't know of day cares as I've been a SAHM, but maybe ask for suggestions from pediatricians you interview before baby is here.
we go to ahwatukee pediatrics and LOVE them.
Yeah, pretty much when you find out you are pregnant, you need to start looking at childcare if you are going to go with a center of some sort. Because the child / teacher ratio is so low the spots fill up very quickly and it's best to be on a "list" so to speak early on so you can be guarenteed a spot. That being said, it might not be as hard here as it was back in New England. I am not sure. I would assume it's all the same as far as waiting and much fewer spots.
We just put Will into daycare a month ago for the first time. We use Kindercare and I LOVE it so far. He has learned so much in just the 4 weeks he's been there and the teachers are great. I know that is a larger center with branches all over the country. I think you might get reviews from a lot of different people on the centers. Both good and bad. There are a few that are all over the country (kindercare, tutor time being two I can think of off the bat). Your best be will be to tour them and get your own feeling for them.
There are also state resources you can check into for reviews and such on state licensed daycares. This is especially helpful if you decide to go with an in-home center vs. an actual facility. I'll see if I can find the link for you. Good luck, it's a hard decision to make and seems even more diffacult because your options are even more limited!
Congratulations! I must have missed your annoucement!
I don't think you're that far behind-- I haven't found a daycare either. BUT, we have researched and decided to do an in-home daycare to save money. I called around to a few places and none of them really knew if they would have availability more than 30 days out. Since I don't need daycare until mid February I'm not going to start looking again until just after Christmas. If we would have gone with a commercial facility we probably would have tried to get on a list right around 20 weeks, so your fine.
Do you have any coworkers that you can ask? Otherwise this site might be helpful:

Congrats!! I grew up in ahwatukee, and I used to take my daughter to Triple R Child Care on ray and 44th st? What you need to do is find a few in your area, call them, and go for tours- meet the teachers, etc. Go with your gut and which one you feel most comfortable with and the one that suits your needs best.

I knew from her blog as well. Congrats and I can't wait to find out what you are having
Well from the pregnancy checklist they have on the bump it says to start looking into daycare around 16-20 week so I would say you are right on sechdule and not to let the ladies on the bump make you feel like you are not a good mommy to be by not having day care lined up before you were pregnant also from conversations I have had with Shannon if you are planning on doing CD then I would look more into in home care because places like Kinder Care and Tutor Time might not CD for you. I don't have any suggestions on places as I am in Surprise so I am not to familiar with your town
