So excited that it is right around the corner! (As a student turkey day is all the more exciting because it means the end of the semester is near!)
What are you making? This year is my first year married and first year hosting. We are planning on around 6 people for dinner.
Favorite Thanksgiving recipes and traditions you wouldn't mind sharing?
Re: Thanksgiving!
Apple Pie is a must. We usually stick to the traditional menu.
Last year, we started a Christmas ornament exchange- white elephant style. It was a lot of fun and a great way to tie in the next holiday.
We are having 23 people over, and I'm co-hosting with my mom. We always have a turkey and ham. This year it's a smoked ham from a local butcher.
We do two kinds of mashed potatoes, regular and cream cheese with chives and french fried onions (yum).
Side dishes this year will be cauliflower gratin, butternut squash casserol, spicy sweet potatoes, cream corn souffle, stuffing. And cranberries of course, I buy the jellied kind canned and I make my own whole sauce.
Desserts will be, pumpkin pie, no bake pumpkin pie cheesecake, apple crisp.
If you want any recipes, just pm me. Too many to write out here.
We are having 6 people over. The biggest tradition for me is the parade. I LOVE the Macy's parade. I'm really excited, my DH and I just got married in August and we are having his mom, brother, grandfather and best friend over. I love cooking and I can't wait to have a crowd to eat it all!
Right now I am planning on making turkey, stuffing, mashed potatos, greenbean casserole, some sort of rolls, and I'm thinking about making carrots and cauliflower in someway. I don't really have any recipes nails down yet. I'm exciting looking at all the possibilities.
Any tips on roasting the turkey anyone? I'm pretty sure we are going to use a fresh turkey, our apartment has a tiny freezer...
Hattieshay - I would love your recipe for cauliflower gratin, I've been considering making something like that. I love cauliflower
