  • I can't believe people actually vote for her.
  • I was just coming on here to post the same thing!

I'm just astounded and at a loss for words. Surprise

There are lots of statistics including weighting if say, 50% of the votes in are twin cities (with more automated machines to report faster), the raw # of votes are high since population density... It may be only 20% of the remaining voter population LEFT to report, but they represent "50% of precincts" there comes a point where she can't not win based on numbers.

Am I the only one not surprised?  The same people who voted for her the first time will vote again!?  And isn't that a more conservative area anyway?

Oookay.  That makes sense.  Thanks  :-)

  • I'm not surprised at all. Conservatives LOVE her. Now, if she were to win a state-wide election, then I'd be shocked.

I wish Tarryl Clark had run a more positive and clever campaign...early on, I thought maybe she had a shot at at least getting close.  But her campaign seemed a little uninspired.

  • I'm am beyond perplexed that she keeps getting re-elected.

  • totally not surprised by this one...thats an extremely conservative district and tarryl didnt stand a chance.  my coworkers wrote her off weeks ago and focused their campaign contributions on the oberstar race in hopes to salvage that one.
  • I completely agree!!!  UGH!!!  At least I live in Ellison's district!  Hello 70% of the vote!!!  :)

not all republicans love her...me being one of them but thankfully i dont live in her district so i dont have to worry.

  • When Kare11 aired her victory speech I was thisclose to reaching through the TV to throttle the idiot behind her who couldn't chew his gum with his mouth shut if his life depended on it . . . then he started a "USA" chant and I lost it. I had to leave the room. Between his caveman antics and Bachmann's voice . . . . ick. Just disgusting - all of it!

But that sort of guy is exactly who votes for BSC Bachmann - in his ugly pin-striped zoot-suit and fancy (ie ugly and loud) tie paid for by daddy's credit card . . . they are only concerned about themselves. Screw decency, screw civility, screw everyone and everything that doesn't serve your narrow and self-centered agenda.

    ME TOO!!!  So ridiculous!!!

Also agree with your whole last paragraph!

  • I actually posted this on FB a few minutes ago. When her victory speech was on KARE, Josie came over to snuggle next to me, put her head on my lap and sighed the biggest sigh ever. LOL!

This exactly. It isn't surprising - she wasn't polling well.

I think that her image and message teams failed her miserably.

  • I could just vomit. Bachmann makes me want to move out of the state.
  • Bachmann DOESN'T care about what is needed in her own district.  She just wants to further her own national agenda.  I think she's an incredibly needy person.  ME ME ME!

And in other news - HOW could WI vote out Feingold?!?!?  UGH!

  • GAH. I have no other words. This week is going to be politically BSC with however many recounts there will be.

Y'all, I have the most ridiculous emotional hangover this morning.

Bachmann does nothing for her constituency.  Nothing.  She has the highest foreclosure rate in the state.  What has she done to help this?  Nothing!  I feel like the single item voters are the poeple that vote her in.  They vote her in because she hates the gays.  They vote her in becuase she loves God.  They vote her in because she hates Obama.  They vote her in because she wants Government out of people's lives (unless, of course, they want to marry the same sex or abort a fetus - then they are all for government involvement).  They vote her in for these single issue topics without looking at the bigger picture.  If you want Government to tax you less, then you have to be willing to give up some services.  What do you want to give up?  Because there isn't much.  We can give up money to pave the roads (which, in Bachmann's district there are the most number of roads per capita - because people/homes are so spread out, so her district requires more $$ per person for road building & maintainence).  Or we can give up money for schools.  Or we can give up money for the police and fire department.  Tornado/flood/natural disaster happen in Bachmann's area?  No emergency funds for you becuase you don't want to pay taxes.

Bachmann's supporters don't realize that if you want the Fed to cut taxes... then the State has to raise them - because the money has to come from somewhere.  They should give a detailed plan on what basic government services they no longer want/need so we know what state & fed money to not spend on their district.  If only it worked that way....

Feingold makes me sad.  Feingold was a true maverick LONG before Sarah Palin discovered that word in the dictionary and poorly redefined it by making it her slogan.  Feingold was a real champion for ALL people in Wisconsin, not just the democrats.  His footprint on government has been enjoyed by all and will be dearly missed.  So sad.

Well, hopefully the DNC learned something from this situation.  They needed to fight harder, louder!  They needed to be forceful.  Now the republicans have to prove they can get something done.  The nation as a whole should only give them as much time as they've given Obama (2 years) and if they can't get it done - they need to realize that we as a nation can't be so reactionary.  It takes TIME to get things done.  Patience is important.  I doubt the R's will be able to accomplish half of what Obama has done in 2 years.

I'm very sad today over all of this.  At least O'Donnell didn't win!

  • I am a little flabbergasted that people are genuinely shocked about the outcome of last night.  This is democracy working at its fullest...this isn't something that happened as a direct result of anything President Obama may or may not have done, its just the way politics work.  If there's a conservative President then at the mid-terms they most often re-set and the House and Senate go Liberal...now there's a Liberal President and the House (haven't heard final numbers as to the Senate) went back to the Republicans.  This isn't anything new, and in two years the tides will shift again.

Bachman also won because she represents a district (that does include Stillwater and Forest Lake) where there are a LOT of people who own a lot of land and don't want those taxes going up, and don't want government telling them how they can use that land (ie. green acres, wetlands, protected lands, etc.).

I think this is a lesson in teaching the communities that they need to live with in their means.  LGA was NEVER intended to pay salaries and finance a city it was meant to provide basic services (ie. fire, police) to local governments that can't otherwise generate that money themselves and the two biggest abusers of that LGA money are St. Paul and Minneapolis.  I don't care if cutting aid means raising property taxes and raising taxes on other things...maybe if the cities learned to live with in their means this wouldn't be an issue.  I don't see Mayor Coleman, and Mayor Rybak or Rep, Bachmann, or Governor Pawlenty taking pay cuts to get it done...there are too many chiefs and not enough engines at work here and we'll never fix the problem because of it.

  • I live in district 6.

and I am embarrassed to admit that.

and joy of all joys...she's been talking of a presidential run in 2012, apparently.

I haven't heard her talking about that but I did hear from the Hamline Economics guy that was on Kare11 that she does have her eyes set on a bigger prize and that might be a run for Sen. Klobuchar's seat in 2012.

Which I really don't think, and hope she doesn't win...I honestly don't think though that she could carry the whole state in that type of election...lets hope that she sticks with what she's apparently good at...winning in the 6th district.

At first to this I say "go for it Michelle!  Lets see what happens to you on a national stage!" But then I get scared because what if.......

I just want someone to explain to me why they voted for her.  I mean genuinely.  I am not trying to be a jerk, I just can't wrap my head around it. In all honesty, I just want to try to understand!

I am not in her district so I didn't vote for her, and if I were in her district I don't know that I could vote for her because I am more of a moderate conservative, but the reason is because she IS conservative.

She represents a TRUE conservative base and there are a lot of conservatives out there that feel that the party candidates that come out of primaries are not conservative enough (ie. Pawlenty, McCain, etc).  The feel that the candidates in office today have moved too far to the middle that they don't truly represent the conservative base.

I know people call her crazy and I really find that to be disrespectful regardless of whether you like them or not.  I mean I am not out calling President Obama crazy because I don't believe in what he stands for and I think he leans too far left.  She isn't a great speaker, yes that's obvious, but she just represents conservatives and thats why conservatives like her.

I can tell you from talking to people who also live in the district and did vote for her...they're almost all single issue voters. There are, of course, the people who always vote R or D as well. But a good majority of the people I know who voted for her did so for one of these issues:

    gay marriage

    health care

    abortion

That's it. They claim they're all for small government, and keeping the government out of their lives...as long as the government still gets a say over your marriage and your uterus.

  • Thank you MrsGo4Hockey and Janell. It's helpful

My parents live in that district and even though we don't talk about politics much they weren't really able to shed much light on it for me either.
