Pimp Your Winter Boots Please

If anyone knows a good winter boot, it's the MN ladies :)  If you have a pair that keeps your tooties warm, will you give them a shout out here?

Ultimately, I am looking for a warm and fashionable winter boot that I can wear while walking to the bus and also without shame in the elevator on the way to the office.  Warmth is key but if they don't make the "clomp clomp clomp" sound that's a bonus!

Re: Pimp Your Winter Boots Please

  • I have two pair of Merrell boots, and I love them both.  They don't have the exact same styles any more, but one is a suede one that is more clompy and casual and one is a leather pair that is dresser and just above my ankle.  I've had both for a couple of years and they are still going strong.  They are both very warm, and they are both waterproof.  I highly recommend.

A lot of times you can find last year's models at DSW and save a bunch of money. DSW doesn't have any online, but Zappos does.  And I bet other sites do as well.

  • I have 2 pairs.  one is purely functional and not at all "cute" but they're the warmest things I've ever owned hands down.  (Black "hunting" boots from Fleet Farm.  I can't recall the brand now)  They've got tons of traction too.  I don't use them on a daily basis because they go halfway up my shin and are serious business to lace up.  It just isn't convenient to slip on and off.

I also own a pair of Uggs that I wear to work every day when the snow flies.  They're warm, cute, but not at all good on the traction side of things.  If there are icy sidewalks where you walk, you'll need to proceed with caution.  I wasn't one to think that Uggs are "cute" but these aren't traditionally styled.  They're not totally unfortunate looking but really, all you see is the foot part anyway since my pants cover the rest.  They're really warm on my walk but I don't know that they'd be really warm if I wore them outside ALL day.  I did waterproof mine with some mink oil and have yet to have a problem with my feet getting damp.

  • I had a pair of Roxy winter boots that I took back because they had no warmth or comfort.  I traded them for the Blowfish Hamish boots (in the gray flannel color).  I put them on and it felt like I was walking on pillows- and they zip up on the sides which is awesome because it's easier to tuck my jeans into them.

  • I bought a pari of Sorels last year that are very cute and super cozy. They're my first pair of real adult winter boots (I've been getting by with Payless cheapies), and I love them.

ETA: I don't know how to make the link clicky on my Mac, but I bought the Joan of Arc style.

  • Thanks for the great suggestions!
  • I just bought a pair of Merrell boots for this year - they're suede, but more like an athletic shoe on the bottom.  They're not too tall though - I might need to supplement with another pair.
