Re: *rebecca*
Can you tell how much time I have on my hands lately? Sorry I didn't see this until now. (I miss my nesties!)
I'm terrible and only pump 2x during work. It all depends on when Jacob eats in the morning. He usually eats at 7am, so I pump around 10 and then again at around 2. I nurse him before bed at 6:30 and now that he STTN, I pump before bed at around 9:45.
I know I should be pumping another time while at work, but once I get there it's hard to drop everything and pump; and I have to at work longer to make up for the time I spent pumping.
I usually take 30 minutes to pump; it used to be quicker, but lately I've been pumping an extra 10 minutes to get another letdown.
OK. I just read your other post, so maybe I can be a little more helpful.
I don't pump after I feed him anymore. My milk anxiety would kick in and I found myself giving him one side in the morning so I could pump the other, but then he'd get to daycare hungry (he used to nurse just on one side -- which is why my supply is probably so low now). It made no sense to deprive him of nursing so I could make a bottle for him at daycare. But that's how it was it with my supply and his appetite -- everyone is different!
We started supplementing a bottle of formula at 6 months. Jacob drinks 3 bottles at daycare and 1 is formula b/c I wasn't making enough for his appetite (he used to be heavy for his age, now he's light for his age, so I decided to give him more). I had a freezer stash, but when I got mastitis, it was wiped out. Then, our deep freezer broke and wiped out the second freezer stash I built up. Now that we do formula every day, it's an incredible weight off of my shoulders. Either a freezer stash or supplementing will give you that piece of mind. Now that Jacob is over 6 months, too, he needs more iron than he would get in BM (he also gets it from fortified cereal).
