need ideas please!

We are hosting our small group this Sunday (Bible study group) and having a game night. When you host, its typical to serve a snack. DH wants me to make some kind of dip but my mind is a complete blank. Any ideas?

Re: need ideas please!

  • Make buffalo chicken dip.  Everyone in the world seems to love it--except me since I don't eat or cook chicken.  So, I need to live vicariously through someone.  Google it! :)

  • My friend and I make buffalo wing dip for everything! We take 1 8oz package of cream cheese, precooked chicken cut up (we just buy the ones in the packages in the lunch meat aisle) 1/2 cup roka blue cheese, 1/2 cup wing sauce. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, microwave again, and repeat the process until creamy. Serve with tortilla chips and celery sticks!

  • I have a really good fruit dip that is especially good with apples and pears which is perfect this season.  It's basically just cream cheese, brown sugar and vanilla.  I can pull out the recipe if you're interested.

    Munkii, are you a V-E-G?

  • The buffalo chicken dip is awesome, we call it chicken crack in my group.  So yum!  I've haven't made it with blue cheese before (sounds awesome) and we put it in a 9x13 to bake or a crock pot.

You can make it vegetarian too!!  We did it the other night; just mix cheese and sauce separate, than shred Quorn Naked Chick'n breast or you can use the Morning Star Meal Starter chicken strips.  Mix it in and bake, but you may need to adjust the baking time for the fake chicken.

    This looks beyond yummy:

Serve it with graham crackers, vanilla waffers, etc..

    Other ideas:
    7 layer taco dip
    Enchiladas
    Brown sugar smokies
    Egg rolls

     aaaaaand now I'm hungry (again)

Yes, we talk about this everytime this subject comes up!  But we need to have a more in depth discussion about this sometime.

EMNI-I've thought about making it with quorn (don't like the MS strips) but haven't for whatever reason.  Probably because I'd be stuck eating most of it since DH doesn't like to eat a lot of cheese.  I had to beg, beg, beg to get chili cheese etouffe on our weekly menu one time.  I imagine it has a similar flavor to chicken crack.

  • Short. Attention. Span.
  • I would recommend that buffalo chicken dip too, because you make it in a crock pot, so it stays warm the entire party.  If you are having veggies or fruit, I would recommend buying a tub of dip from the store.  When I see "homemade" dip, sometimes I steer clear because I don't know what's in there!

  • I also agree with Buffalo Chicken Dip!  It's always a party hit!  Have fun!!

Really?  I generally steer clear of them both because I don't know what's in them for veg. reasons, but if I had to, I'd go for homemade.  It's less likely to have a billion preservatives or "corn sugar" in it.  Corn sugar...heh, that council is made up of idiots.

  • If you're looking for something a little heavier, the "mexican goulash" on our FB Cookbook is a great party item.  Just put it out with tortilla chips.

I've done it all in the crock pot and it works.  Just put all of the ingredients in there and turn it on low.  Stir every 15 minutes or so until it's all mixed in.  Less clean up. :)

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I have heard of that dip but never tried making it because I am not a wing person. I will have to give it a try though since it got such great reviews.
