Re: The Return of: The Rainy Day Poll :)
1. What is your neighborhood? Park Slope
2. What are two things that you love about your neighborhood? It's close to Prospect Park and everything is within walking distance
3. What are two things that you dislike about your neighborhood? It's very white. There isn't a lot of cultural diversity. And it's very expensive. I can't afford to shop in any of the stores around here.
4. Where is essentially your dream neighborhood (it has to be in NY)? I like Fort Greene a lot and I also like this area because it is safe. Carroll Gardens too.
1. What is your neighborhood? Laurelton, Queens
2. What are two things that you love about your neighborhood? It's quiet and safe (last year we were the area with the lowest crime rate in our precinct and our precinct has some nice nabes like Fresh Meadows, New Hyde Park etc.).
I like that the area consists of professionals who own their homes, with a good average income per household. (Yeah I researched this).
3. What are two things that you dislike about your neighborhood? Just because most of the people who live there are from the Caribbean, I cannot get over the fact that the ONLY restaurants that are there are Caribbean restaurants. Seriously?!?! I am not eating food that I can cook when I go out every time!
There is no bus near the LIRR line that stops there. It would be quite a trek the day I decide to take the LIRR home. But our bus is reliable and frequent and thats what I take so no big deal.
4. Where is essentially your dream neighborhood (it has to be in NY)? I would like to live somewhere in Long Island. Not too far in but near enough. Because we live so near to LI, we go often and I kinda like it.

1. What is your neighborhood? Cobble Hill/Brooklyn Heights (I live on the border), Brooklyn
2. What are two things that you love about your neighborhood?
The amount of trees and parks nearby - makes it so much more pleasant (compared to when I lived in an area that was all concrete). Also, lots of good places to go food shopping (trader joes, fairway in red hook, Sahadis, etc).
3. What are two things that you dislike about your neighborhood?
I feel like it has gotten really popular (crowded) in the last few years. I used to think of it as a hidden gem, but its definitely been discovered. My DH grew up in the neighborhood and he said it used to be A LOT different. Another thing that annoys me is that it feels like there is constantly construction going on, but I guess that probably happens in a lot of areas.
4. Where is essentially your dream neighborhood (it has to be in NY)? I don't really know. Maybe the UWS or UES. To be honest, I don't think there is another neighborhood that I could honestly say I would like better than where I am now.
1. What is your neighborhood? Rossville (SI)
2. What are two things that you love about your neighborhood? We're in walking distance to plenty of shopping and not too far from NJ (where we both have family and plan on moving to next year...sorry NYers lol)
3. What are two things that you dislike about your neighborhood? Not so much against the neighborhood, but we're on a main street and it's pretty noisy with the windows open (thankfully the bedrooms are in the back of the house) and due to being on a main street, parking is limited (but still much better than our old development).
4. Where is essentially your dream neighborhood (it has to be in NY)? If we were to stay in NY, I'd have to say Great Kills (here in SI). I grew up there and it's a pretty quiet neighborhood. I don't know too much about the other boroughs (besides Manhattan, but being we're starting a family and I'd like my kids to have a yard, but if we weren't having kids, then I'd say somewhere in Manhattan would be nice for the experience).
1. My neighborhood - Bayside, Queens
2. Two things I love about it - the convenient location (LIRR gets you to Manhattan in 20 minutes, the Clearview connects to every highway you could ever need), and the food - we have every type of restaurant imaginable and they are all yum. :-) Bell Blvd is the "main drag" and every other building is some sort of restaurant!
3. Two things I dislike - at least in my area of Bayside, the lack of community. About 3/4 of my block is Chinese immigrants who don't speak English. Both of our immediate neighbors are, and neither speaks English (well, one tries but it's SO DAMN HARD to understand him!). We wish we could make some friends on our block, have them over for BBQs, ask them to feed our cats when we are away, etc. Since we've had the baby, we've met a bunch of the older residents on our block. They speak English, but they are OLDER, and not exactly "friend" material! They are nice, though.
I don't really have a second thing I dislike.
4. My dream neighborhood - would still be Bayside, just on the other side of the Clearview, where the houses are bigger :-)
Im from Staten Island too!! Im only in Bay Ridge for about 3 years now. I grew up in South Beach, but before I moved to Bklyn - I lived in Silver Lake for a long time.
I hear you on the NJ thing. We're moving there too! We're looking to buy our first house within the next 6-8 months.
1. What is your neighborhood? Park Slope
2. What are two things that you love about your neighborhood? all the baby/family resources and walkability to anything we need
3. What are two things that you dislike about your neighborhood? cost of housing and the surprising loud level of street traffic at our spot.
4. Where is essentially your dream neighborhood (it has to be in NY)? Definitely Park Slope - I feel like we fit in very well here, and we've made a lot of friends in this neighborhood. Now if only we could afford a place to buy!!
I'm assuming you went to HS out here? Where'd you go? I went to NDHS. Just curious.
Silver Lake is beautiful...I love all the beautiful old homes over there.
You definitely get more for your money out in NJ...we learned that the heard way. We already bought and sold our 1st home (here in Richmondtown)which we should have waited to purchase. Instead of rushing into buying something right away, we should have rented for the last few years and headed straight to NJ. Hindsight is 20/20. =/ Good luck with your new home shopping.
1. What is your neighborhood? Forest Hills, Queens
2. What are two things that you love about your neighborhood?
Having lots of shops, restaurants, and amenities within a short walk
Lots of people like us, but lots of diversity as well; quiet, family-oriented area
3. What are two things that you dislike about your neighborhood?
I would love some better brunch options
Also lacks a basic pub, with some nice grub and good beer selection
4. Where is essentially your dream neighborhood (it has to be in NY)?
Either a larger place in our current neighborhood, a place in Sunnyside Gardens, or a waterfront high-rise apartment with a view of Manhattan (in any Queens or Brooklyn neighborhood that's fun)
LOL It's not just me that feels this way!! The H thinks it too, along with a bunch of other fun people. I guess we like brunch and beer.
