Do you take drugs for a cold?

My standard cold treatment is just to sleep as much as possible, along with sides of chicken noodle soup and lots of hot water/tea.  If I can't sleep and am desperate then I'll take some medicine, but otherwise I generally avoid drugs as they're not a cure anyway.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Re: Do you take drugs for a cold?

  • Yes. I am all about the decongestants.

  • Most cold meds give me the shakes.  Decongestants make my nose so dry that it hurts, and usually give me drymouth too.  I feel like I can't take any medicine without getting at least one side effect, so I usually don't bother.  I do take painkillers if I have muscle pain from the flu.
  • I LOVE taking nyquil for a cold. It's the only way I can sleep, and it totally knocks me out. Usually I do dayquil/nyquil, but I always make sure I switch to Delsum if it's only a cough.

I have a cold right now and my doctor has approved Robitussin, but I've made it 38 weeks without taking more than a total of 4 or 5 Tylenol, so I'd love to not start now. I'm just sleeping even more, drinking TONS of water, and toughing it out.

  • unless i'm feeling really really miserable, i usually won't take anything during the day. and if i do its usually dayquil. and i take nyquil even if i'm feeling the slightest bit sick. i hate not being able to sleep when i'm sick.

  • Yes - if it gets to the point where I'm getting miserable, I'll take Sudafed or Dayquil/Nyquil

  • Yes, I'll take Sudafed related drugs. Nyquil pills are too large for me to swallow and the liquid is nasty. For colds I also take Zycam in the beginning. Usually it works, though it didn't the last time I took it. My stock may be on the older side.

  • I'll take dayquil if I'm feeling really crappy and have to go to work/school but usually won't if I'm just staying home. I do take nyquil though because I really hate not being able to sleep when I'm sick. DH almost gets excited when he gets to take nyquil because he gets such a good night sleep- it's kind of pathetic haha
