1st b-day party food - Clarified menu in 3rd reply

DH and I are disagreeing about what (and how much) to serve at J & W's 1st b-day party. We'll be inviting around 45-50, I know of a few that definitely won't show (no clue how many will show). It'll be on a Saturday late afternoon/early evening (from around 4:00-6:00) so dinner will be served. Spouse A thinks that Baked Mostaccioli, salad, and garlic [chees] bread will be enough. Spouse B thinks those all sound like side items and we should order sub sandwiches (comes with a few meats, and lettuce). It will be mostly adults, maybe 8 or so kids (ranging from 3 years to 10 years).

  • Menu A sounds more like dinner, especially if there is meat in it.  Menu B sounds like a lunch (I assume there would still be sides with it).

    Ditto.

  • I'm sorry, I wasn't clear (terrible habit of assuming that everyone knows what I'm thinking).  The sub sandwiches would go ALONG WITH the pasta, bread, and salad.
  • I don't think subs go with the rest of the menu.  If you want something more main dish add some meatballs or chicken parm.

This is a sub-like sandwich that 2 pasta places sell with their pastas (we're actually going to be duplicating their menu, just can't decide if we should add the sandwiches or not).

  • I'd do menu B just because the sandwiches will appeal to the kiddos. Adults can eat the baked pasta and other stuff for a dinner type meal.
  • Spouse A's menu is enough.  Sandwiches confuse the dinner.

  • Hi:

If they are a hot meatball sandwich or chicken parm go for it.  Cold deli sandwiches- nope.  Nobody will eat them and they don't go with the menu.
