Bedroom Decor Plan (PIP)- Need Opinions

I mentioned in my 3 sentence update, that we are planning to redo our bedroom.  Here's our plan.  Let me know your thoughts!

We are going to repaint our bedroom a blue and keep the white wainscoting at the bottom. I'm thinking of going with something close to the lighter blue below.

image

Since DH hates painting I convinced him that if we get 2 duvet covers that will go with the blue then we won't have to repaint for quite some time.  Here are the two we are going to get.

I order this one last night.

And we are going to ask my parents for this one for Xmas

image

And I'm hoping that these shams will go with both duvet covers and we can use some green accents in the room (vases, pictures, etc.)

image

I put all of this together in the past few days, so please feel free to let me know if you think this will actually work!!!  Or if you have any other suggestions, please let me know!

Here is our bedroom furniture in case that makes a difference.

  • Definitely go with the lighter blue paint color if you are using the darker bedding. I'm not quite sure how well those 2 patterns will go together? But other than that, I love everything else.

    Yes

We aren't going to use the same patterns at the same time.  Just be able to switch to a new duvet cover when I get tired of the current one.  So I'm trying to make sure the rest of the room (walls, shams, accents) will coordinate with both.

  • My tangent - I really want to get a comforter that is designed for a duvet. Right now we just have a normal comforter and I feel like it never gets clean due to our cats. Do you have a down comforter or is it a down alternative?

I love the dark duvet you have picked, I bet that will look awesome with the shams and blue walls. For some reason, I really like blue walls in bedrooms, so I give your plan a Yes

We bought a down duvet at Macys for .... drumroll please... $40!!!  They also had down alternative for $40 as well.  We got it last Sunday, so I'd be surprised if they don't still have them for that price.

We decided to go the duvet cover route due to Rudy and his love of our bed.  This way we can throw the cover in the washing machine (and have another cover to replace it while it is being washed).

  • I love the second bedding you have picked out!  I think you made some great choices too, be sure and post pics with the updated look when you do it!

  • Wow, that's a great deal! I'm checking out overstock right now, they have some in the $40-60 range. I wondering whether higher thread counts are worth it - does that helps keep the feathers in better?
  • The first bedding set is NMS, but I love the second. I think your scheme is well thought out. It seems like a lot of things go with that grey/blue color so I'm sure you'll be able to find bedding to match even when you get tired of those two.

    ETA: Oops! Double posts.

The guy at Macy's said that the thread count doesn't matter if you are planning on putting a duvet cover on it.  I think the one we got actually has a polyester fabric instead of cotton, which may be why it was cheaper.  But it has 75% down which was the same as the fancy duvets at Macy's, so we got it!

  • I think it all goes together well.

  • EA--I'd prefer the lighter blue to go with both of those sets--both of which I LOVE!!  I think the green accents will go nicer with the lighter blue too.   Neat!
