Re: Biowash Laundry Ball?

  • There are a ton of mixed reviews about this thing!  I'm definitely intrigued.

So far, this is the best article I've found, but it still doesn't convince me whether or not to get one.

    http://inhabitat.com/2008/11/20/is-it-green-the-laundry-ball/

ETA: I'm still searching.  Apparently the results are overwhelmingly comparable to washing with water alone, and people get better results washing with hot water as opposed to cold.  It works better on clothes that are not heavily soiled.

My husband is a plane maintainer and his hobby is working on his truck, and we both work out pretty vigorously, so I don't think this product would fare well in our home.

There are even a few reviews of other brands of laundry balls breaking open and damaging washing machines.

More and more links I'm finding suggest simply using a smaller amount of laundry detergent than the manufacturer recommends.  One site even said you'd have similar results to the laundry ball if you used detergent/soap one load, then skipped it the next, so it's just easier to scale back the amount of detergent used.
