We are going to be in you lovely city for a few days at the end of the month. We're planning on going to the zoo and finding a place to have margaritas whilst looking at the ocean. S would also like to find food truck fish tacos. Do you have any advice for these or other things we should do? Wanna get lunch?
Re: Noisy
I'd love to get lunch! I'll be away the Saturday and Sunday right after Thanksgiving though - don't tell me those are the only days you'll be here.
The zoo is great! If you're there on a weekend, right near the entrance there's a little train you can ride on and a super old carousel, Jane might enjoy both of those (Will loves them both). http://www.balboapark.org/in-the-park/attractions Balboa Park (where the zoo is located) is really gigantic and has some playgrounds, lots of museums, and plenty of neat gardens and other spaces to just wander around. Though, you probably won't want to do a lot of wandering after or before the zoo, because the zoo is freaking huge.
This place is a little north of San Diego, but it's right on the beach and shines lights out at the waves at night. http://thebeachhouse.com/ We went there fairly often with some friends who lived in that area before Will was born. It's not a Mexican place, but they have a good bar and you could definitely get margaritas. It's also a restaurant so Jane can join you.
What other things do you like to do? If you're interested in beer/microbrews we can give you some places to go too (we are beer nerds and San Diego County has a pretty good beer nerd population). Unfortunately I'm useless when it comes to food truck knowledge here.
Where are you staying?
I'll try to think of other fun San Diego things, my brain is a little fried right now.
For fish tacos go to South Beach Bar & Grill on Newport Ave in Ocean Beach. There are lots of antique stores along this street so its fun to roam around.
One of my favorite mexican places was Rancho Mexican on Suset Cliffs Blvd, also in Ocean Beach (and not too far from South Beach)- they offer extensive vegan and vegetarian options along with all the regular stuff and have a great little patio on the side.
I'm not aware of any food trucks, but any Albertos, Alibertos, Roliberts, etc are great for greasy fast food mexican. yum.
Not sure how the margaritas are, but World Famous in Pacific Beach is right on the beach and has great views, decent food. You could also walk up the boardwalk a bit and try Armondo's which is also on the beach.
If you like roller coasters, go on the Coaster in Mission Beach- not good for the baby, but super fun and amazing views of the ocean, beach and bay. Sea World is there, but its pricey. Go to Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado, its beautiful to walk around and you could get a margarita out by the pool.
