Christmas Traditions with New Baby - Need Ideas
Hi everyone -
Our daughter was born in July, and I would love your ideas for some traditions we could start with her for Christmas. We know this year might be tricky, since she is so young, but we would like to start something anyway and go with it every year. We are already planning to open new pjs on Christmas Eve. Any other thoughts? We are looking for something we can get her every year too (i.e. ornament, etc.). TIA!
Re: Christmas Traditions with New Baby - Need Ideas
The ornament idea is great. I've been getting an ornament every year that I can remember. It doesn't have to be one with a year on it or anything. This one maybe, since it will be her first Christmas.
My mom always did something that reminded her of me, or something I was into. Like in 2000, I got a millenium Barbie ornament. I have a few Harry Potter ones. A little deer from the year I was born. Only 2 have the year on it, and I think it's more special because you remember things you liked rather than the year. You know?
Also, every year my mom reads me The Littlest Angel and The Night Before Christmas. Even though I'm married... I love having it read to me. We also watch Rudolph on cable when it comes on, usually before Christmas. We have it on DVD too, and watch it again Christmas Eve, it's my favorite movie : )
We would come home from Church on Christmas Eve and read Bible stories and Christmas stories with hot chocolate.
We also got ornaments every year. Then, when we each moved out and got our own tree, we already had ornaments for the tree!
Christmas morning is always omelets (and now mimosas). For when she gets older, we would also get a new family game and play on Christmas day after all the gifts are open!
You can get her an ornament every year (choose one that is memorable of events from the year - one from a vacation destination, or something she was into - dolls, animals, movie character, school or sororiety mascot, etc.), but keep them & give them to her as a special gift at her bridal shower.
i buy a new christmas book every year, plus the ones were given extra. i wrap them all in the same paper except the new book, and randomly let her choose which "package" up until christmas eve, then i read the new book then.
repeat year after year. pretty soon it will be two books a night!
I want to do what my BFF did with her kids - get a tree skirt and do all three of your handprints.... then each year, add your daughters handprint for that year. Not sure if she dated, but she does have 4 kids now.
