visiting soon - Harvard Square lunch rec?

So many places to choose from!  Wanted to go to Mr. Bartley's but I'll be there on a Sunday.  Looking for something less expensive than Harvest.  Definitely planning a Sweet Cupcake for dessert.

Thanks!

Re: visiting soon - Harvard Square lunch rec?

  • Sadly, a lot of the mom & pop places in the Square have been shut down.  Too bad you said inexpensive, because Henrietta's Table can be quite an experience for brunch.

I honestly can't think of where to send you.  I guess Le's for Vietnamese food isn't bad, but it's not super exciting.  There's also a Finale in Harvard Square and their food is decent. On the edge of Harvard Square is Dolphin Seafood, though I haven't been there in many years.

For tea or hot chocolate and some sweet treats though, Burdick is not to be missed.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Thanks for the input.  I'm traveling for work and we already have a lot of other pricey places on the books so were trying to do lunch on the cheap.

  • Burdick's looks wonderful!!!  I think I'll need some hot chocolate to warm up.

  • I think there's a Fire and Ice in Harvard Sq. I don't know if you have those in TX, I think there are only 5 or 6 in the country. I LOVE it there. And I'm pretty sure their lunch is around $10 (and it's something like $26 for dinner).

Have a little chocolate mouse for me, too!

  • John Harvards is great, Grendel's Den is also really good, and a little something different.

  • Hi-Rise Bakery is also good for sandwiches and salads.
  • I really like the Red House.  Also love Henrietta's table brunch!  Grafton St. is also a great place for lunch.  I used to live near Harvard Sq.  I miss it!
  • A few suggestions for "cheap lunch" in Harvard Square...

*if you are in the mood for a nice pizza/panini/interesting salad, try OGGI's (near Au Bon Pain - to the left actually inside a bldg that I believe belongs to Harvard)

*if you are in the mood for a mediterranean/moroccan meal (think wrap/shawarma or a couscous w/chicken meal) then try VIVA CAFE, it's on Mass Ave, about a 5min walk from Au Bon Pain (toward central square)

*if you are in the mood for mexican/tex-mex, try BORDER CAFE - not expensive. usually long lines to get in for dinner but i think lunch is okay.

*if you are in the mood for a sandwich/cafe-type lunch, then try CREMA CAFE - near Bertucci's in Harvard Sq.

     happy travels!
