Christmas Cookie Exchange
So I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet but I'm planning on hosting a cookie exchange during the 1st week of December. I've never hosted one or been to one so if anyone has any tips I'd really appreciate it!
Re: Christmas Cookie Exchange
I'm thinking of hosting my first one this year as well! Here are some things I'm considering (though I don't have any set plans for mine yet, and I don't have answers for some of these questions):
1) Decide how many people to invite. Girls only? Time of day? (I'm leaning towards a late afternoon, ladies only party.)
2) Plan a menu with non-sweet items for during the get together (I'm thinking an array of hot and cold savory apps, like spinach dip or skewers or a cheese plate). Decide on drinks (I'll probably do a champagne punch and then some nonalcoholic options).
3) Decorate a table large enough to display everyone's offerings (I think I'll get platters for people to set their cookies/baked goods on, and then do a simple centerpiece or two). Provide "carry home" containers for the guests to put their goodies in.
4) Get a playlist of holiday music started to have on in the background.
5) Decide on any other activities (board games? white elephant? tree decorating? cut out cookie decorating?) that will occur during the exhange. For me, this is going to sort of be our "girls' holiday party" so I want to have more than just the cookie exchange going on.
HTH.
My playgroup have one every year - soo much fun. This is how we organize it.
Invite five people. Each person bakes six dozen cookies (in their own home)ncluding the host. One dozen per person and one to share/taste-test at the cookie exchange. Cookies are pre-packaged and include the recipe.
We usually serve something salty to offset all of the sweets like cheese, crackers, olives, pita, hummus. Also serve apple cider, egg nog, or a fruit punch.
The kids decorate sugar cookies and/or gingerbread people with frosting, sprinkles, etc.
