All the Disney ladies...

DH and I are thinking of going to Disneyland during his vacation which lands on the week of our 2 year anniversary (12/30) and New Years Eve.  Has any one been to Disneyland on New Years Eve?  I did a quick look on their website and I see they're open extra hours but I'm not sure what they do for NYE.

Also, any suggestions on economical places to stay?  I think the resorts might be a bit out of our price range.

TIA.

Re: All the Disney ladies...

  • I THINK (not sure, but I think) that they have a special event (requires separate admission) for New Year's Eve.  Like they close the park at 9 (or something - not sure on the times - I'm making that time up), and evacuate it, and then you readmit if you have the special event ticket?

Like how they do Grad Night, or the Trick-or-Treating stuff.

But I'm not completely sure on this...

  • Never mind.  Scatch that totally.

Here is what I found on it...

It looks like CA Adventure is open til 1, and Disneyland is open til 2.  They have festivities planned in both parks.

  • Gah!  That's really old!!  lol!  Sorry - let me keep looking.

    I fail.  lol

  • Ok, per Disneyland's website, on Dec. 31, 2010, the park is open from 8am to 2 am.  CA Adventure is open from 10 am - 1 am.  It doesn't specifically mention the New Year's stuff on the calendar that I was looking at, but I imagine they will likely have similar things going on to what they had planned in the link I posted from 2002.
  • We did Disneyland for NYE a couple years ago and it was a lot of fun.  Pick a park and get there early as they are beyond crowded.  I have done NY in NYE and I think Disney was worse.  We ended up being in CA Adventure as it had later hours that year and it was a little less crowded...Disney had reached max and closed admissions by 1pm that day.  We stayed offsite at one of the Hilton hotel (I can't remember which one).  I usually do one of the good neighbor hotels and have had lots of luck with them.

  • It's a total madhouse!

It is fun if you are looking to pretty much hang out and maybe only go on a few rides, but other than that I wouldn't plan on doing much more.

  • No help on the NYE portion, but we usually stay at the Marriott or Doubletree Suites, and have always gotten really good rates.  Of course, I don't know if they'll be hiked up with it being NYE, but it's worth a shot.

  • I have, once.  But to be fair, it rained like ALL day, so by the time evening came around most people had left the parks- so my experience was AWESOME! We too hung out in California Adventure.  I think we stayed at the Doubletree at The Block at Orange that trip.

It's a fun experience I think, but it can be a mad house for sure!

  • we did that one year. New years eve is a madhouse. Way too many people for my taste. Every year they reach capacity. New years day= PERFECT. seriously no lines. you walk right onto the rides and you don't fight the crowds. (I think most people assume it will be packed on the actual holiday so they don't go)

  • I've done New Years 3 times at Disneyland, once at Disney World (Epcot). They have a stage set up by Small World where some of the characters are to entertain the guests and such. One year I was waiting at Small World from like 8:00 on. At Disneyland, I've never not waited around at some point, so I don't know how it's like to try to get through the crowds to ride the rides. I did the ride thing at Epcot when we were there for New Years and it was a complete mad house. But, it was cool because people from all over the world were there and partying it up in their own country. But, we were no where near the water show that went with the fireworks as we were at the Mission Space ride or whatever it's called. The years I've done New Years are: 2003-4, 2004-5, and 2008-9 at Disneyland, 2007-8 at Epcot.
