CNN: Dow stabilizing in the 400s
They say that it is not a panic scenario. Says not a huge percentage loss. Not a crash. Not a free fall. Don't panic.
Re: CNN: Dow stabilizing in the 400s
ITA!!!!
I wish I could respond and at least post my thoughts all morning.
Dow is down 600 points again. Things can get ugly during the last hour of the market, so I would hang out near a tv or a computer b/w 3-4. We might be ok and we might not.
Anyways, I hope to catch up with you ladies tonight.
While I was under the same impression this morning, things feel so different now. It's truly a huge toss up as to when a deal with be signed, sealed, and delivered.
The public hates this bill which is why IMO congress is scared to death to vote for it. But I think market turbulence will give congress the backbone it needs. Right now the doomsday scenarios sound like wild exaggerations to people who know nothing about the financial industry. But news like this will make them look prescient. WDYT?
You are absolutely right, Congress is scared sh!tless of pissing off their constituency. I don't think I've said it on this board, but Paulson and Bernanke and the rest of the economists in this world need to do a much better job of explaining to Main Street America why this plan is necessary. The version of the plan that was published this weekend seemed a reasonable compromise to all sides and that is why I am quite surprised it was not passed.
Given the numbered weeks we have until the election, I am not sure if anything will get done before then. Both sides will try their best to use this to their party's advantage, which will only make things worse. Had this plan been proposed and presented even a few months ago, I am certain we would not face this much disagreement among the ranks.
