s/o shave before sex?

I am tired and cranky and avoiding downer posts about the bailout debacle until after lunch.

So, do you really always have smooth legs if you're going to have sex? My shaving schedule leaves something to be desired (if H cared, but I doubt he even notices), but that doesn't stop us from getting any.

Re: s/o shave before sex?

  • I shave every other day, so my legs are usually pretty smooth.

  • I shave when I know my bare legs will be seen. So, not often. Gettin some is usually unplaned for.

  • Not for me though DH probably wishes... he doesnt CARE... but he def prefers smooth legs (and I do too really) I dont shave nearly as often as I should (and my hair grows fast and pretty thick for a blonde girl - not really noticable to see but pretty gross to feel). A) razorburn (especially if I had recently shaved for some reason) and B) time

In a perfect world where it didnt hurt and wasnt $$ I would wax my legs. i did them for the wedding (didnt want to deal with shaving on my HM esp if I got a sunburn) and it worked well...

  • I have freakishly slow growing, soft, almost invisible leg hair.  My husband has never commented on my infrequent leg shaving habits.  I don't know if it's because it's not noticeable or if he just doesn't care.  This of course has encouraged me to be even more lazy about shaving.

So, the bareness of my legs is not a factor in us getting busy.

  • I hate shaving and don't do it unless I have to wear a skirt/shorts for whatever reason.
  • dh doesn't care. I think once you start shaving their back hair they realize they have no place to complain about your situation.

  • I shave about every other day in warm weather and about once a week in cold weather, sometimes longer. LOL.  My H is just happy to get laid so he never says anything.

I do want to throw out a product rec, especially for cold weather shaving - I love the Schick (sp) Intuition right now.  I just can NOT shave in the shower with my favorite razor ever (Venus) and frankly in colder weather, I don't feel like the time I spend shaving in the tub is even worth it.

Okay does that make sense - my 4 yo is bugging the doof--- out of me and I can't concentrate.  LOL!

  • I also have baby fine invisible leg hair so I'm not really a regular leg shaver.

Aint that the truth. Only I'm not allowed to call it shaving. It's "trimming".

If he cares, he knows better than to voice his concern. I have pretty slow growing, light hair. The backs of my legs barely have any need for shaving at all. And it gets better with every passing year. My mom never shaves her legs, she just doesn't grow hair anymore.

He does have a weird repulsion towards thigh hair. He finds it really odd how many women totally ignore thigh hair. I can barely tell I have any until I shave it, and I usually feel guilty that I haven't done it more often. But that hasn't caused any change in habits.

  • shaving my legs is probably one of my least favorite things to do. i do it in warm weather like 2 times a week, but i can't do it more than that because if it's not grown out enough i get razer burn without fail.
  • 1) I don't shower all that often (3 times/week or so)

    2) If I'm doing so quickly, I won't shave at all

    3) If I want to shave my full legs, I need to take a bath.  That thigh hair is tricky - growing every which direction.

    4) DH notices the hair, and comments on it.

    5) I have to shower after sex, but don't like extra showers.

So, this poses a problem.  Say I shower and bathe Friday night, fully shaving my legs.  By Sunday evening, before my next shower, they're already stubbly.

OR a lot of times I'll shave but then not see DH awake for 3 days.  Now that I'm not wearing skirts every day anymore, I have even less motivation.

This is probably TMI...but I'm thinking about getting a brazilian wax next month, but I'm worried about the discomfort when it grows back.  Any advice?

  • DH says nothing about the hair on my legs, but the hair on my legs isn't very thick.

DH waxes the other areas on me.

  • Shaving leg hair is a pita and the results are so short-lived Crying When I feel like doing a project, I use one of those epilator things that basically rips all of the hairs out. It hurts, but at least it lasts longer than a day.
  • For a dark haired, olive complexioned person, the hair on my legs is incredibly light and fine (I wish it were that way under my arms as well). ?I never have to shave above my knees because I don't have much hair there and it's not?noticeable by sight or touch. ?I shave below my knees maybe once a week.

So my shaving gets in the way of nothing.?

  • Wow, might I have just found one way I'm actually girlier than most?  Oh my dear God.

Well....I don't moisturize afterwards..ever.  Whew, I've restored my tomboyishness.  Whew.  That was too close for comfort.

  • In warm weather I shave at least every other day because I am wearing shorts or capris. It is still warm so I am wearing capris to work so I at least try to shave the calfs every other day!!!

With cold weather I shave maybe twice a week. One of the few things I love about cold weather.

As for DH he never says a word about my legs whether they are smooth or hairy!

  • I have fine blond hair on my legs, so do it once a week in warm weather, once a month probably in cold.  DH doesn't care. at. all.  We do it anyway.

I try to keep up with arm pits so that there's no stuble because it's gross to me.  I never do anything to the bikini area because I really just don't have much there naturally.  I got rid of all of it once just to see, and DH said he thought it was a bit creepy.  He doesn't do his area either, because I've never noticed it being weird or too much.  I figure that stuff is meant to be there for a reason.  Why expose it to cutting and infection if neither of us cares?

I swear, we're not gross and hairy.  I promise we're not a picture out of the original Joy of Sex.

  • I'm Italian and after a few days, i'm like a saskwatch. FI doesn't mind unless it gets really bad. That and he's sensitive to my stubble on his legs. Doesn't seem to be a problem during sex though...he's never one to turn down sex!

If it's the summer, I'll shave a little more anyway, but I couldn't the 100 days in the winter...i'm too lazy.

I want one too but have yet to do it.

I think this is a common concern for anyone who's ever used a razor to shave it all off, cause it itches like muther-effer growing back.

The good news is, it doesn't itch at all with a brazilian. I got my first brazilian in March (for my anniversary!) and have gotten 3 more since then. It's painful, it doesn't  get easier each time, but it makes me feel very clean. :) DH doesn't care one way or another, sadly, so I'm letting it go for awhile.

Anyone who is interested in trying should do it at least once! My rec: find a waxer you actually like. I get the feeling my waxer doesn't like me, so I plan to find a new one when I want to start up again.

  • imagemajorwife:

I am loling at the mental image I have of what your waxer is doing to make you think she doesn't like you.  She is a bit too eager to pull that strip off, huh?

    LOL

I have never had a brazilian but didn't even think the regular bikini wax was all that painful. I stopped going, though, because it was when I was a waitress and the waxer started coming in to my restaurant with her husband and he was a bad tipper (!!!).

  • imagemajorwife:

I heard that it is not the bikini area part that hurts, more like the landing strip area.  I am sure the parts in the "rear" doesn't feel that great either.

Actually, the rear parts hurt the least - it's the least sensitive part of all.  It's the landing strip area and the um, innermost areas that hurt the most.

Marquis, you MUST get TendSkin and use it daily after your wax if you get one. It is THE BEST for preventing ingrown hairs and itching and such. Trust me. I always thought the salon places were just pushing it like they tend to push products, but it really is amazing and totally works.

Hm, my experience has been different. I did get some ingrown hairs that HURT and had some serious itching too. But as I said, TendSkin completely prevented them during subsequent waxes.

It is much more comfortable when it grows back than if you were to shave it. ?If that's all you're worried about, go for it.?

You will be happy to hear that the further back you go the less it hurts. ?My rear is the least discomfortable spot.?

    ?

I am trying to get over the someone up in my 'who part.?

    ?

Yeah, that can be awkward, especially when its a 60 year old lady.?

  • I think it's only fair that I shave, considering I'm up for it once a week max right now. Wink
  • imagemajorwife:

    Also, do you bleed??

Remember that part in 40 yo virgin, when he gets waxed and then he bleeds after?? I don't want that.

    ?

I never have with a brazillian. ?The one time I had my armpits done I did though.?

  • imagemajorwife:

I have never bled. I don't know where they got that from.

That said, the awkwardness is...well, awkward, especially if you get the back done. You have to either get on all fours or some other equally embarassing position while a stranger, well....you know. But, after you've done it once or twice, it's not really a big deal anymore because you realize that they do this ALL the time and they don't care.

I did, however, chicken out and cancel one time when I made an appointment at my usual place and they told me a guy was going to be my waxer. Sorry, no way. I'm sure he's very professional but I am not that liberal.

  • MW, I didn't think it was really that awkward. Sure, I was a little embarassed at first, but you just have to remember that they do it all the time--it's their job and it's not like they thought you two were just going to sit and chat [;-)].
  • Major- I should?clarify. ?It was only awkward for me the first time when a 60 year old woman did it (and took two hours). ?I switched salons and my new lady was my age and cool. ?All awkwardness vanished.
