How often do you...

Do laundry

Vacuum

File papers/mail

Dust

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's?

We live with his parents and we have the top floor. Which is a loft and a master bedroom. It feels so messy so often. And we live RIGHT next to train tracks which causes SO much dust. Any ideas, help?

Do laundry- once a week.  I go to the laundry mat for now, so I can easily get it all done in a little over an hour.

    Vacuum- 2 or 3 times a week

File papers/mail- We do online billing, so that eliminates a lot of filing.  Otherwise, I throw junk away immediately and deal with the other stuff once a week.

    Dust- once a week

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's? I do all of it...I'm a SAHW so I do most of the chores.  When I was working and when I do go back, we both did it depending on who was less busy.  And yes, we washed one another's clothes.

I would suggest dusting more often.  I've lived places where I've had to do it more.  I would also suggest getting a hand vac to do ceiling fans and other hard to reach places.  Eliminate clutter and knick-knacks, because it makes it look messier and they attract dust.

Do laundry Usually once a week, either Sunday or Monday

    Vacuum Every three days

    File papers/mail Every day

Dust Maybe once every two weeks (most hated chore)

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's? I usually do, and I do all laundry including his (except his work clothes, he likes those a certain way) Sometimes he'll do it if he feels he isn't "pulling his own weight"

  • Our laundry needs to be done daily or every other day to keep up with it.  I haven't done any laundry since Halloween (and even then it wasn't 100% caught up) and there's a TON of clothes (literally I mean a ton, as in 2000 pounds) on our master bedroom floor b/c it won't fit into baskets anymore (we redid our floors so I couldn't use the washer/dryer too much b/c they had to be empty for moving them around).

I vacuum daily or every other day with our new floor b/c it's a high gloss laminate.  When we had linoleum and carpet on our main level I would vacuum 1+ per week (sometimes 3-4 times, sometimes just once).

I take care of all mail on a daily basis and the only papers I ever file are tax papers, everything else is dealt with and tossed.

I don't dust most furniture as often as I should.  I only dust our bedroom furniture when the dust is an inch thick because it's a PITA to dust Embarrassed.  Our dining room table easily gets wiped down daily b/c it's a deep cherry set and the afternoon sun hits it and exposes every spec of dust.

I do all of the laundry.

  • imageDslove4life:

Do laundry At 2-3 loads every 2-3 days.

Vacuum Once a week - We have hardwood floors so and an area rug, so I vacuum/sweep on the weekends.

File papers/mail Once a week - when I get tired of the mail sitting out on the dining room table.

Dust Not very often.  Maybe once a month or every other month.  When I dust, I tend to do everything.  I don't use a duster though, they don't really work well for me.  I use a wet cloth first then a dry cloth.

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's? We have a creek in our backyard which brings some large wolf spiders into our basement.  Since I'm deathly afraid of spiders, I usually ask my DBF to start and switch the laundry and I usually fold it and put it away. Sometimes if I'm feeling brave I'll venture downstairs.

Do laundry Once a week (we have to go to the laundromat)

    Vacuum Twice a week

File papers/mail I tend to let this pile up, badly. When I pay the bills I file them though, so twice a month?

    Dust Not often enough.

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's? We go to the laundromat together.

  • Do laundry: It goes in spurts - ideally I do one load a day (it's just DH and I). But recently I've been doing the majority of the laundry on Monday's because I work from home that day.

Vacuum: We vacuum the stairs once a week (if we're good). I have to sweep the hardwood floors every day because our lab shed's like a mofo.

File papers/mail: I am not good at this. I do it when the piles start to make me insane. In a perfect world, once a week would be great!

Dust: Also not very good with this. Probably like once every 2 weeks.

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's? I do the laundry. My husband will throw a load in every once in a while. But he lost priviledges a while back when he flooded our laundry room.

  • Laundry: Twice a week. I do my work clothes in the middle of the week and jeans/towels/sheets on the weekend when I have some more time

Vacuum: I'm so bad about this but I try to vacuum twice a week. I'm getting a dog so I'm sure that this will go up to several times a week.

File Papers/mail: Everyday I go thru my mail and sort it in a "to pay" / "to file" / "magazines" I keep it in my desk mail organizer - it has 3 slots for just this purpose. It kinda looks like this but its wayyy cuter and has polka dots!

     mail organizer

My to file box has a handle and a place to keep my pens... its very similar to this one

    plastic file box

I file papers once a week and the cool thing is that since it has a handle I can take it to the table or wherever to work on bills and stuff. Plus I have pens, pencils, paperclips, mini stapler, stamps and whiteout in the top so its really a mini desk! I know it sounds like a lot of steps but it keeps you very organized.

Sorry I got carried away...lol  As you can tell I get geeked up about organizing. If you want some additional great paper organizing advice check out jean chatzky's finance books.

Dusting: hmmmmm every other week. I HATE dusting :(  It would be much more helpful for my allerigies if I did it more often. I even brought the cool method wood wipes but I still dont dust!

Good Luck - Drop me a line if you have any questions.

    Hugs!

  • I do everything around our house.  Not really by choice, but because if I didn't do it, my husband would NEVER do anything.  It's annoying as hell and he can never just help out no matter how much I ask, talk, beg, make chore charts, etc.

To address your dust problem, you are going to have to dust every day, just a quick wipe down.  Also, vacuum more often.  AND...don't forget to change out your air filter every month as that will also contribute to the dust.  I vacuum the vent cover and change out the filter every month or two months.

    Do laundry: once a week

Vacuum: we have hardwood but I clean that once a week

File papers/mail: everyday as it comes it or else it piles up

    Dust: once a week

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's? I do both of ours but he likes to do his own ironing

Any ideas, help? When we lived on the second floor our apartment was so much dustier so maybe dust more often. Also try vacuuming your couch and mattress - you probably don't notice how much dust accumulates on them too

  • Do laundry? 1-2 times a week

    Vacuum? 1-2 times a week

    File papers/mail? Every other day

    Dust? 1-2 times a week

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's?  I do both of our laundry together

    Do laundry

2 people. 2-3 loads 2-3 times a week. I wash towels and sheets at least once a week.

    Vacuum

2-3 times a week. We have brand new carpets and I think vacuuming often will keep dirt from mushing into the carpet.

    File papers/mail

We don't get much mail. As soon as we get it.

    Dust

    3 ish times a month.

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's?

I do all the laundry, DH's included  (but he makes ALL the money. . . soooo ya)

Do laundry - I try to do a load or two of clothes during the work week. The rest gets done on the weekends. And I don't actually put away the clean clothes until Sunday because I absolutely hate doing it.

Vacuum - I use a handheld vacuum every day/every other day to get stray crumbs/cat hair/dirt/etc. I use my big vacuum once a week.

File papers/mail - ummmmm. Like never. I hate hate hate hate filing. I have a giant to-be-filed pile in my spare bedroom that stays there for months and months. I'd say I file things maybe twice a year? Embarrassed

Dust- About every other week. Our house doesn't get super dusty.

Also, who does the laundry? Do you do your DH's? - DH and I share laundry duty. He does his, I do mine. Usually I'm the one who washes sheets and towels, but he'll do that occasionally also.

Any ideas, help? - Living in a small space can be hard because it feels like the messiness gets out of hand a lot faster. I'd say just try to take 15 minutes or so each and every day to tidy up, that way you're not going crazy trying to clean everything all at once.
