Holiday "Drinks and treats" party-WDYT
Hi ladies, I need your opinions about my holiday party idea because I don't normally do much entertaining. I like to bake so I was thinking about having a party with drinks and holiday themed baked goods. What do you think of that idea?
My other question is this- we moved into our new home in July and still have one room ( formal living room) unfinished ( it's empty). Is it tacky to have a party like this? What would you think if you went to a friends house and it was like this?
Re: Holiday "Drinks and treats" party-WDYT
i just went to a fantastic party in an artist's loft in an old factory with very few amenities.
good food. good music. booze. = party.
Hi! I agree with previous post re: unfinished room. Go for it!!!
That room could have trees - large decorations etc.- whatever you like. Or just rent/borrow some chairs and let it be a hang out place.
BTW - our house is still "unfinished" - in that we haven't purchased formal dining room set with china cabinet and fancier chairs - and have some miss matched things in our living room. We have toddlers and I kind of stopped decorating. If I waited until we had enough cash/time to re-do our whole house at once- we wouldn't have a party until our children were in high school...
Also - I do think that sweet treats and booze are great for a party - but my preference would also be to have some "savory" treats and appetizers as well. (Just that I can't eat too many sweets and love cheeses, wines, dips , pizzas etc.).
Good Luck and please let us know what you decide to do!

Yum! Drinks and sweets. Sounds good to me.
On the other part: what do you mean by unfinished? It's one thing if it is subfloors and nails vs. a nice room without furniture. If it just isn't furnished, it would be ideal. I would love a room that was empty. You could stage it for the party. There is always a need for space to lay out the food, drinks and serveware. I would rent/buy two folding tables. Buy some nice tableclothes to cover them. Decorate the tables.
Google something like "Martha Stewart Buffet" and click on images. You'll get lots of ideas on how to dress up plain tables and layout the food and decor.
Have fun.

I think it's a great idea! We are doing our housewarming/open house holiday party the weekend of Thanksgiving, but our house will be completely decorated for Christmas. I'll be doing a huge dessert spread much like you described.
I'd love to go to a party like you described!
Simple and to the point, I like it.
We are in the same boat as you, our DR is empty right now, so we figured why not, let's have a holiday get together, not tacky at all. I say go for it.
You could get a fold out table, place drinks and food on it and a few extra chairs and it will be perfect.
