2. Are you nervous about your future financially?

3. Do you plan to change anything about your lifestyle or will it remain the same?

4. What are your thoughts on the bailout?

Re: S/O: Economy Poll

  • 1. Are you fearful of losing your job? What about dh? I'm a pro student right now..so no. :) i am worried about DH finding a ?job here though.2. Are you nervous about your future financially? ?Yes and no. Any retirement money DH and I have saved is in Australia and we're both relatively young. We plan on living within our means and saving for the future - regardless of the state of the economy.3. Do you plan to change anything about your lifestyle or will it remain the same? We just plan on living within our means, not carrying ANY CC debt and saving. Plugging along!4. What are your thoughts on the bailout? I'm worried they're going to put all this money in to fixing the economy and it won't work. And I also am worried that these institutions will come to expect a bailout and not plan the financial aspect of their businesses conservatively.

  • 1. Are you fearful of losing your job? What about dh? Even though I work for a financial institution I'm fairly confident in my job security. *If* it does come to lay-offs I know my office will be the very last so that makes me feel better. I'm confident in dh's job.

    2. Are you nervous about your future financially? Kinda. I feel better that I'm young and facing this crisis. At least I have plenty of time to make any lost money back. I do worry for my parents though...

    3. Do you plan to change anything about your lifestyle or will it remain the same? We are pretty frugal as it is, but I'm sure we will make even more changes. I picked up a part time job in hopes of building up a baby fund but if I have to I will use that money as needed....I just hope it doesnt come to that.

    4. What are your thoughts on the bailout? I'm riding the fence on this one. I feel like its going to affect all of us financially if they dont do the bailout and that makes me nervous. However I feel like we dug ourselves this hole as a nation so we should learn how to get ourselves out.

  • 1.  No and no

    2.  No, these times come and go.  We are young, like you all have said.

    3.  No, I mean I'm not going and spending money like a crazy person - but I wouldn't do that anyway!

    4.  Eh, I don't know.  It just depends on all of the conditions that come along with it.  I certainly don't agree with rewarding irresponsibility.  Someone that bought a house they couldn't afford did just that - bought something they couldn't afford.  I don't want to pay for that.  (Not saying that everyone couldn't afford their homes, but some).

Others who have waited patiently can't even go today and borrow the money to buy a house they CAN afford - is that fair?  I don't think the government should be able to take over these things.  People need to learn to take responsibility for their choices financially and not rely on the government to hold their hand.

Just my general opinion about the whole thing/role of government.  And no, it's not always simple or black and white - but I'd be typing all day if we're really getting into detail :)

  • 1. Are you fearful of losing your job? What about dh? No, I work for a small co that I don't see going under, also DH is self employed in the paint and body business, so folks are ALWAYS having accidents, regardless if the economy is bad, LOL

    2. Are you nervous about your future financially? I'm not nervous, per se.  Dh and I haven't really delved into our financial future like we need too, so needless to say, the market isn't really effecting us.

    3. Do you plan to change anything about your lifestyle or will it remain the same? I don't really see us making any changes.  Like PP's we don't go out and blow money.

    4. What are your thoughts on the bailout? I'm on the fence about it.  I agree that something needs to be done, yet I don't think it should fall on the taxpayers or the government to fix the problem.  These companies made poor decisions and were POORLY managed, so I think that the responsibility should fall mostly on them.  I could go on and on.

  • 1. Are you fearful of losing your job? What about dh?  no and no, I work in collections and recovery for a financial company so while they are suffering w/the buyouts (more recently w/Wachovia as Citi is not our client) there will always be those people in collections/recovery.  DH is in media relations in athletics, he's fine.

    2. Are you nervous about your future financially?  nope, we have saved and I'm working on getting rid of my debt soon.  I worry about that stupid condo in ATL though - that would REALLY help us if we could sell it.

    3. Do you plan to change anything about your lifestyle or will it remain the same?  we eat at home a lot more and I'm trying not to buy as much.  I was so used to it being just me though and "doing what I wanted w/my budget" but now that we share I'm more frugal and tend to think SO much more b/f I spend.

    4. What are your thoughts on the bailout?  I have several thoughts and mixed emotions on it being in the industry I'm in.  I think that if it was a mistake I made I would have to find a way to get out of it and fix it.  People were not consulted as they should have been (with regards to the housing industry and obtaining homes) and therefore usually "bought more than they could afford" hence getting into the financial housing woes.  Now that's not all of it, but that's part of it and I could go on and on and thus I digress like the whole situation.  Ugh, it's awful and I think we need to just fix it.
But like in all economics - what goes up must come down, what goes down, must go up, and so forth.............

  • 1. Already lost it in May. I don't think I'll ever find a new one.

    2. Yes.

    3. I will continue cutting back as much as possible, buying what I can secondhand, limiting travel, etc.

    4. I'm not sure it's the end all solution but I think it's prob. the band-aid we need to stop the bleeding.

  • 1. Are you fearful of losing your job? What about dh? Not worried about DH. But I am worried about mine. There are rumors of layoffs. Newspapers and jobs in the media are never safe.

    2. Are you nervous about your future financially? Somewhat. With the cost of a baby, how we are going to pay for everything *if* something did happen to one of our jobs. I know we will be taken care of one way or another. All I can do is work and pray that nothing happens.

    3. Do you plan to change anything about your lifestyle or will it remain the same? We've been saving a lot more. Plus continuing to try to pay down debt... something we've been doing over the last two years.

    4. What are your thoughts on the bailout? I wish Congress would make up their dam* minds. I don't like it more than anyone else but I do believe something has to be done.

As far as the mortgages, I don't think it's fair that people took out mortgages for more they could afford or that the banks gave it to them. But, rather than dragging our entire economy down because of it the government needs to do something.

Sometimes the government has to step in before the whole ship sinks.

  • 1. Are you fearful of losing your job? What about dh? I guess, but not because of the economy. I'm fearful of losing my job because it is a temp position. We are not fearful of DH losing his job.

    2. Are you nervous about your future financially? No

    3. Do you plan to change anything about your lifestyle or will it remain the same? No plans to change...I'd say it has even improved lately

    4. What are your thoughts on the bailout? I really don't know enough about it to adequately answering this question.

  • 1. Are you fearful of losing your job? What about dh?  I am not worried.  No matter what state the economy is in...people will always get sick!  DH...I am not super worried.  There is a shortage of teachers..so he could always find another job!

    2. Are you nervous about your future financially?  I try not to worry about it!  We are not even looking at retirement for another 40~something years...so I am trying to be optimistic!  The economy goes up...and down.  You just have to ride these things out.

    3. Do you plan to change anything about your lifestyle or will it remain the same?  We are pretty frugal as it is!  We are very careful about our spending.  We are also going through Dave's financial peace university to learn how to tackle the remainder of our debt!  We hope to be completely debt free in the next few years :)

    4. What are your thoughts on the bailout?  I think the mortgage industry has been completely irresponsible over the past years.  They should have never let people borrow what they could not afford....and people should not have thought they could have things that were so beyond their means!  I think if these companies would have handled things better over the past years....we would not be in this situation!  It all comes down to being responsible...and that is something our country has a BIG problem with!!!

  • 1. Are you fearful of losing your job? What about dh?  Me- absolutely not.  The particular line of work I am in is actually more secure when the economy is down.  The worse the economy gets, the more work I have to do.   DH - slim possibility, but I am not really worried

    2. Are you nervous about your future financially? Not at all.

    3. Do you plan to change anything about your lifestyle or will it remain the same?  Same, we are already big into debt snowball and everything Dave Ramsey

    4. What are your thoughts on the bailout?  As a liberal I can't believe I am saying this, but I honestly feel that the market will take care of the situation.  The way it is written now, the bailout will greatly hurt the mortgage industry, and that is not a good thing - especially in my line of work.
