Another cooking question

I was watching Home Made Simple the other day and they made a pork tenderloin using a larger stainless steel pan. They seared the tenderloin and sauteed the veggies on the stovetop, then put the whole thing in the oven.

I now have a burning desire for one of these pans but don't know how to shop for one. Is all stainless steel cookware oven safe? Is all stainless steel created equally? Like, do I have to buy All-Clad or would the Calphalon SS do just fine?

Re: Another cooking question

  • When I was looking for new pots and pans, I made sure they were oven safe as well.  I don't know if all SS can go in the oven, but mine can and they are not super fancy All Clad.

  • What brand did you go with? Did you end up buying an entire set or just doing a few pieces? I have some teflon pans that I want to replace with SS but I am not sure I want to replace my entire set. Well, I want to but I know it's not necessary.

  • I have three All-Clad saute pans, but my saucepans are a cheaper stainless (I think they're Revereware).  The All-Clad are expensive, but I use them all the time, and they're easy to clean.
  • I cannot remember exactly, but I think they're Calaphon?  I needed to replace all of my old pots and pans, so I bought a set.  I spent a chunk of time reading reviews on Amazon in order to pick a set that wasn't ridiculously expensive but would get the job done.  A few of the reviewers basically said it was the best you could get for the money if you couldn't afford the fancy All Clad stuff.

  • I'm so glad you did all that research so that I don't have to.

So, is Calaphon the starter home to All-Clad's forever home? I'd be happy with that.

  • My main pan is a Calphalon.  It's heavy weight and all metal (so oven safe). I love it.  I also love iron cookware for stove top to oven cooking and it is inexpensive.

  • Thanks for the reminder, Fallin. I do like cast iron, but only the smaller pans. Anything too big gets heavy and I have to lift it with 2 hands. For some reason, that always irritates me.
