So, I think you guys know that we are doing a red kitchen... Check out pictures on Facebook if you want to see the colour... Well, we just can't find a nice countertop that matches and it's just not turning out nice so,..... I think we are changing the red..
This is what we have going on:
-pinky white laminate floor tiles - possibly could change
- birch cabinets
- this tile
- cherry red paint
-black handles
-white appliances
-white and brushed nickel lighting
-we are opening it up to our green living/dining room
So, if you are thinking that's way too much going on... I do too and that's probably why we are having trouble finding a countertop.
So, I came up with a solution. We either ditch the tile and I don't get a tile backsplash or we ditch the red. So, I am thinking we ditch the red and go with light brown... which will match our curtains in our living room and we could possibly do a lighter colour of what's in our bedroom.
Any thoughts or better ideas?
- varnished maple cabinets ( EDIT: VERY BAD MISTAKE - they are actually varnished Birch cabinets as above - Birch is just cheaper than Maple and kind of looks like it...)
Melting Snow... because it means that spring is actually on the way and it's not snowing or cold.
Re: Red Kitchen?
I'm personally a fan of red on walls to make rooms pop, but it may be too much in this instance. I like the idea of going to a lighter brown - or just a lighter color in general - to help bring everything all together.
I'm not a decorator at all, but I'm trying to think if maybe a better color on the walls would help...
hmm, does sound like a lot going on. this isn't my forte at all, but i think i'm in favor of ditching the red and going w/ light brown. i'll have to check out your pics on fb, though.
good luck!
I love a red kitchen. My aunt had one in her old house. Her countertops and backsplash were tiled black and white checkerboard, and her floors were white tile. I'm not really a fan of the checkerboard. When I think of a red kitchen, I see either a black, white/cream, or silver/metallic countertop and same for the floors (but replace metallic with hardwood).
This is what I've always liked too. Red is such a hard color to accomplish. I tried to do a red accent in our living room and could never get the color right. I always seem to pick our a pinky red and H got tired of trying, so we went with brown
Otherwise, I'm not much help with decorating, so it seems the easiest solution would be to change the paint color. Let us know what you decide on!

Accenting with red is a great idea!
