Re: TV Help
You might reconsider the LCD.
We did a Panasonic Viera G-50...it is a plasma. I love it, it is really nice and the picture quality is so much better than what we could have afforded in a LCD or LED.
Ditto on the plasma,
You can get great picture quality for less with a plasma, especially at 55in size. As fo the brand, I would say stick with the major companies, ie Sony, LG, ect. they usually have better quality and return policies if something does go wrong.
Good luck!
Thanks.
I think we're pretty set on the LCD...from my research it appears that plasma's use more electricity, don't last as long, and also are harder to fix if something goes wrong (I realize the last statment is pretty much a blanket statement and really depends on the circumstances though).
Do you have any references for pro-plasma?

If your room has a lot of light in it (say from a large window), you want an LCD. If it's a darker room (say a basement), a plasma is best. It has to do with how the blacks are represented, which is a big factor in a bright picture.
The whole plasma-burning-out thing isn't really true anymore.
This is true with the older plasmas. The one that we bought is energy star rated and our electricity bill has gone down since we got it over our old tv.
Just check the customer reviews on any TV that you buy and consider the space that you are putting the TV in.
I don't have any of the research that we did when we bought ours...sorry. My hubby is a computer engineer so he really geeks out over these things so he did most of the research.
This is exactly why we're in the market for an LCD, also a 55". We are torn as well and are still window shopping. We are leaning toward a Samsung. The picture quality looks great and we hear they are a great investment. But, so are Sony's. We've had our Sony 55" projection TV for 8 years now and it still works great. Sorry if this isn't much help.
