Sorry it took me a while to post, but I've had a really hard time with this. It still feels like a bad dream.
Long story short, the jury came back with a not guilty verdict.
I'm not sure what gives those 12 jurors the right to disagree with the medical knowledge of 7 doctors. Every single doctor who treated Ava (radiologist, neurologist, optamologist, etc) said that her injuries were NOT caused by a simple 30 inch fall from a countertop as this guy claimed.
The jury took it amongst themselves to decide that those doctors were wrong. This man who has caused my niece to live the rest of her life in a wheelchair, unable to move most of her body and unable to communicate in any way, will go on to live his life as if nothing happened.
Please keep Ava in your prayers. I know his conviction wouldn't have changed anything with her condition, but it seemed only fair for him to pay in some way.
Re: The trial is over
I am so sorry. May Ava continue to be surrounded by your loving and caring family...
Ugh. I'm so sorry to hear that.
I had hoped that he would have to pay some way for what he did to her.
Lots of thoughts and prayers for your family.
pennyandandy-Sorry, I guess I confused people with that video. That was taken BEFORE her injuries. She is completely unable to speak or communicate now.
I just wanted to show how advanced she was at 2 1/2 years old and now at 5, she can't even talk. So sad.
