Good market for restaurants/wine?

Hi Ladies,

DH and I are newlyweds, and are actually from Wisconsin.  I grew up in the greater Chicago area, and LOVE the city and would really like to move back someday.  DH is a wino/foodie, and is pretty serious about starting a bar or restaurant.  Any suggestions from an insider on places where this might flourish?  We considered Skokie, because it's so central and is surrounded by communities that would probably respond well, but there doesn't appear to be a large amount of the kind of business we are looking to start.  Any thoughts on this, or other ideas?

Re: Good market for restaurants/wine?

  • That's a tough question --- Skokie is in the suburbs - I'm sure there are some great deals in the city as far as maybe Lincoln Square or Wrigleyville but it is tough out there......  it might be cheap to rent or buy a space but getting the customers to spend money is another story. I live in Wrigleyville and see restaurants / wine bars come and go.....some ones you might want to take a look at as references are Volo Wine Bar in Roscoe Village and Webster Wine Bar.    Good luck!
  • I'd say in one of the up and coming western suburbs.  Everything is "going west" even Metra is pushing farther west.

Oswego, Plainfield, Elburn, Bolingbrook ect ect.
