So DH and I bought a 7 year old house, which really doesn't have too many issues other than your normal wear and tear. But we were advised by the SELLER'S Realtor, not ours, to get a home warranty on the house, specifically on the appliances. We are so glad we did!
On Sunday night, we started to smell a burning smell coming from the laundry room, and went downstairs to find our dryer making very strange noises and smelling like fire. It sounded like metal on metal. The dryer, mind you, has been a whole bunch of problems from the start. First off, it takes about 70-80 minutes to dry a normal load of clothes, and forget about a larger load. It's been spitting brown stuff on our clothes for the past few weeks, and the lint catcher doesn't catch any lint. It's ridiculous.
So the warranty people came out to inspect it today, and found that the motor, the belt, and the seal are broken. I assumed that meant that we'd be getting a new dryer. Wrong! We're getting a new motor, belt, and seal, a grand total (which the warranty takes care of) of $200. But hey, I'm good with that because it's going to work again... hopefully. Thank goodness for the home warranty!
Re: Dryer Troubles
Yeah, he told us to clean the vent out, too, just to help improve the drying speed. He said it's not too bad, but it never hurts to clean it out. Apparently, we're just supposed to hook up a leaf blower and blow it all outside!
